Britney Spears birth immortalized in sculpture

Tags: Meta

Britney Spears’ delivery of son Sean Preston was imagined by artist Daniel Edwards in a sculpture he calls, "Monument to Pro-Life: The Birth of Sean Preston."  Britney is portrayed nude posed on all fours, with her back arched, tilted pelvis, clutching a bearskin rug on which she’s kneeling, with Sean’s head crowning.  (Nevermind that Britney had a C-section!)

The artist said, "Britney provides inspiration for those struggling with the ‘right choice.’ She was number one with Google last year, with good reason — people are inspired by the beauty of a pregnant woman."  The co-director of the gallery where the piece is being displayed, Lincoln Capla said, "A superstar at Britney’s young age having a child is rare in today’s celebrity culture. This dedication honors Britney for the rarity of her choice and bravery of her decision."

The artist used as artistic reference a wax figure of Britney pole-dancing which is part of the Las Vegas’ Madame Tussauds and ‘Britney wigs’ characterizing various hairstyles of the pop-princess from a Los Angeles hairstylist. He selected to pose his meta-Britney on a bearskin rug "to convey the commemoration on of the traditional bearskin rug baby picture."

"Monument to Pro-Life" is on view April 7th thru 23rd with a reception for the dedication April 7th from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Capla Kesting Fine Art, 121 Roebling St., Brooklyn, NY. Gallery hours are 1:00 - 6:00 pm Thursday thru Sunday, or by appointment. The gallery can be reached at http://www.caplakesting.com or by phone at 646-932-5687.

Facial rendering looks nothing like her. He should have forgone the bear skin rug; instead depicted her clutching a Starbucks. Is there really a rear end view to this sculpture…as in did the artist sculpt Brit’s genitals w/ Sean P.’s supposed head crowning?! Ew. Double Ew.

  2. pg Says:

This truly makes me sick. Nothing about her planned c-section was “brave” or “inspirational.”

  3. gargoylegurl Says:

I don’t think this sculpture looks anything like Brit. And it’s so obvious a man created this piece, while I know there are some women that squat to give birth, no woman in her right mind would arch her back & tilt her pelvis forward - this would would go against gravity and make delivery very difficult. Besides, if her baby is supposedly crowning, I’m guessing her face wouldn’t look quite so expressionless! LOL! expression on her face is not one that The intention was nice but the piece is tacky and totally unbelievable.

I agree. This is wrong on so many counts… it does not even remotely look like her; women don’t give birth in that position; there is no expression on her face; and she had a planned C-section because she was afraid to go through natural childbirth. I’m not certain where any bravery comes in to play. Certainly having a baby as a celebrity of any age is in style right now. And as for pro-life, I’m not sure driving with an infant on one’s lap or drinking gallons of caffeine while pregnant really qualify her for that.

I really think it is a joke.

    I am completely SPEECHLESS!!!

I don’t even want to look at the photo of the sculpture, but from the description it sounds less like Britney Spears and more like Ayla from Jean Auel’s books “Clan Of The Cavebear” or “Valley of The Horses” or “The Mammouth Hunters.”

Especially the part in “Valley of the Horses” where Jondalar dreamt of Ayla giving birth to a nation, or something.

To me it sounds like the sculptor/”artist” had attempted to make a statue of Ayla, but even Jean Auel didn’t want it either, so now he claims it’s “Britney Spears.” lol (oh brother!)

The idea of the sculpture is absolutely beautiful!! HOWEVER, i don’t see Britney Spears as the perfect role model for young mothers. And please forgive my cynicism and perhaps insults. BUT, i don’t think her birth was anticipated nor a planned blessing; she didn’t exactly take care of her baby while he was in her womb (drinking in the third trimester, junkfood, and starbucks); she had a planned c-section becuase her mother told her it’d be painful, (it’s suppose to be!! that’s the beauty of the memories); she (i’m sure) was dosed with mega drugs for the birth; there’s nothing but a majority of pictures with someone else holding her son, her husband does nothing but party, drink, gamble, smoke and can’t support his 2 OTHER kids…i could go on and on. I am not impressed by Britney Spears’ new role of motherhood and i DON’T find her motivating or inspiring. If you wanted to immortalize a young Hollywood mother how about Kate Hudson, Liv Tyler, Melissa Joan Hart, Soleil Moon Frye…shall I go on?? I think the artist wasted his time and was grossly mistaken in his perception of Britney Spears. Does she even care about the statue?? I wonder what her response was. If this is what young america finds inspiring we’re in deep trouble.

  10. annie Says:

You know they just stuck her name on this for publicity. It isn’t remotely related to her, other than the fact that it’s a woman having a child. It may as well be Katie Holmes or your neighbour.

  11. cherylina Says:

Whoa……Im just glad there’s no pictures of the other side….
Looks nothing like her and if I was Britney I’d be creeped out that this artist is invisioning me naked, with a bear skin rug and birthing my child while on all fours…weird!

  12. Jeani Says:

I think it is disgusting that anyone would think Britney is an inspiration for anything that is good (especially motherhood for crying out loud), and the part about her being an inspiration for those struggling with the “right” choice is downright laughable. Personally, I don’t think she has made a “right” choice about anything yet. I would be absolutely horrified if my daughter actually looked up to her as a roll model.

  13. Layla's Mommy Says:

GROSS!!!!!! I am a young mom and I in no way modle myself after Britney Spears. I think she is the definition of white trash. I think she gives young moms a bad name.YUCK!!!!!

    About the c-section thing:
Mine wasn’t planned, but evan if it was it is no picnic. Plus I heard she got an infection so that would be evan worse. I labored for 32 hours and still had a c-section. I would have much rather gone natural and had a shorter recovery than have gone through all the pain after sergery. Just removing the bandages was one of the most painful things I had ever gone through.
