Peter Andre and Katie Price are happy to announce the birth of their first daughter. They are absolutely over the moon with the new addition to their family and delighted to have a sister for Harvey and Junior - it is a dream come true! Both Katie and the baby are healthy and happy, and will be spending the next few days resting in hospital.

6lbs is big. Have u had a child ?

Posted by: lilkunta at Jun 29, 2007 12:17:31 PM

Curious to see what they name her. All of katie's kids weighed around same thing at birth, and were born by c-sections too.

Posted by: gianna at Jun 29, 2007 12:18:28 PM

well done katie and peter hears to many happy years and peter watch your bankbalance reduse now little girls are a gift from heaven from a mum to two boys then a little girl congratsxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Posted by: marie at Jun 29, 2007 12:23:48 PM

6lbs is NOT big.

Posted by: Cindy at Jun 29, 2007 12:26:55 PM

Lilkunta-

Yes, I have had a child...8 lbs 4 oz 21 inches long with a 15 inch around head...ALL NATURAL, meaning no drugs and no c-section. So, my question is valid...as is my curiosity.

Posted by: brass at Jun 29, 2007 12:28:00 PM

The baby could have been breech, or back-to-back (can't remember exact terminology) or there may have been an increased risk of harm during natural childbirth to Katie after her previous C-sections. It's not impossible but there is always concern if you've had C-sections before, especially given that she has had more than one and she had a miscarriage last year.

6lb is average - not big, not small. I have a twin brother and sister who turn 1 next week and the girl was 6lb 4.5oz, which is average for a singleton. (The boy was 7lb 14oz though!)

And I like the name Crystal. Am eagerly awaiting name announcement!

Posted by: Laura UK at Jun 29, 2007 12:37:09 PM

Brannon, what's wrong with the name Crystal?

Posted by: Crystal at Jun 29, 2007 12:38:42 PM

Weird, I was born 9 lbs. 2 oz. and my mom had a natural birth, but things were done differently back then. Anyway, my best friend's baby was just over 8 lbs. with a normal birth, and my nephew was 8 lbs. with a normal (5 minutes of pushing) birth. I guess it's different for some women.

Congrats to Peter, Katie, Harvey, and Junior!

Posted by: Ashley at Jun 29, 2007 1:02:05 PM

Andi...

Junior's full name is Junior Savva Andre, and Harvey's full name is Harvey Daniel Price. I'm not too sure if Harvey has taken Peter's surname or not yet.

Congrats to Katie and Peter. I bet she will be a stunner!!

x

Posted by: tracey_basford at Jun 29, 2007 1:04:00 PM

Junior's full name is actually Junior Savva Andrea (yes, with the 'a' at the end) as this is his father's real name.

Posted by: Lola at Jun 29, 2007 1:11:53 PM

She probably had another c-section because Junior was a c-section and a vaginal birth might have caused complications with the scar tissue.

I'm curious about her name too.

Posted by: Nineveh at Jun 29, 2007 1:32:02 PM

"Savaa" and more correctly "Savas" is a greek name!

I say more correctly as when you call someone it's "Savaa" (you stress the "a" a bit lol) but when you refer and/or write s/o's full name it's Savas.

Peter Andre has heritage from Cyprus (I think one of his parents is from there) and the names here in my country Greece and there are almost all the same.

Sorry for the little explaining lol

Anyway, congrats to the family!

I'm so happy they got their little girl they wished for so much after such a difficult pregnancy!

All the best to them!

Posted by: Althea at Jun 29, 2007 1:32:09 PM

Could the baby have been breech? I've heard that if the baby is breech they recommend a c-section (I think some celebrity like Gwen Stefani had a c-section due to baby being breech). No matter, a healthy baby is here and I'm happy for the family! :)

Posted by: Jennie at Jun 29, 2007 1:32:26 PM

Congrats to Katie and Peter! Can't wait to see the new baby, hopefully.

Posted by: FC at Jun 29, 2007 1:50:36 PM

Sorry - no offense meant Crystal - just thought it would be a bit much with her new book being titled Crystal and the surrounding publicity is all :)

Posted by: Brannon at Jun 29, 2007 2:16:50 PM

Brannon... None taken... I didn't realize that she had a book out named that. It would be a little weird.
I happen to like my name and it seems like for some reason some people have a negative connotation with it. I don't know why, but it has always mystified me! :o)

Anyways, Congrats to Katie and the family... it is always wonderful to welcome a new baby!

Posted by: Crystal at Jun 29, 2007 2:38:00 PM

6lb is not big - i have had two kids one 7lb 5oz and the other 8lb 8oz both natural no drugs! So long as the baby and mum are well doesnt matter how it comes out!
Congrats to them all x

Posted by: Louise at Jun 29, 2007 2:52:17 PM

Congrats to the Price-Andre family!! Bet the little girl will be as beautiful as her mom, dad, and big brothers. Anticipating on what her name will be (I'm sure it will be very girly!).

absolutly thrilled love them both to bits CONGRATULATIONSxxxx

Posted by: kaylee at Jun 29, 2007 5:00:12 PM

congrats to this family!! great news after such a horrible few months for them. why question the csection??? Baby could have been breech, could have been due to prior csections as they do recommend a csection if the babies are less than 2 yrs apart between pregnancies. Uterine rupture being the reason. Who knows...who cares! Its their business and none of our business why. No need to justify!!

Oh, and nowadays...a 6lb 13oz baby is a little small. Average weight for babies is between 7.5-8.5 pounds. At least that is what a friend of mine was told by her OB. Babies are just bigger nowadays!!

CONGRATS!!!!!

Posted by: tink1217 at Jun 29, 2007 5:23:39 PM

I don't think babies 'these days' are getting bigger. I was 9lb, 11oz. That was 23 years ago. I wasn't the biggest out of the four of us either...that would be my sister at 9lbs, 15oz....almost 10lbs! My older brother was the smallest at 8lbs 8oz. That was 40 years ago!

I think it just depends on genetics, gestational health, and length of gestation. Not to forget, in cases of gestational diabetes there is almost always high birth weight.

Posted by: Emily at Jun 29, 2007 5:42:33 PM

Does it really matter why she had the c section, she had one and that is her buisness, give her some privacy,i also cant wait to see the pics, but hay give her a chance to get back to normall a?baby not even 24 hours old yet,i think katie is great, and she will have a real little princess,i have a little girl who is nearly 4,and she is my princess, love doing her hair and dressing her up to look so beautifull, katie got all that to look forward to,well done katie, and congrats to all the family.xx

Posted by: SARAH at Jun 29, 2007 6:03:30 PM

emily, i think you are right it does depend on those things, but back in the 50's and 60's and even 70's mothers were told not to gain more than 25 pounds. Now, a healthy weight gain is 25-35 pounds. So, it goes to reason babies might be getting bigger "these days". zOh, snd BTW...I never had gestational diabetes and my daughter was 8lbs 5oz and my son was 10lbs 2oz. I had a friend who had GD and her daughter was only 7lbs.

Posted by: tink1217 at Jun 29, 2007 7:05:02 PM

Congratulations katie and peter im so happy for you both its so nice that harvey and junior have a little sister im glad everything went ok for you katie your both great parents and all 3 of your children should be blessed to have a mummy and daddy like you.

Did none of you watch the series Katie & Peter?
Katie said herself that it's a big rumour started by a magazine that she will name the baby Crystal. She IS NOT going to name her Crystal!

Can't wait to see the baby!!

Posted by: Kat at Jun 30, 2007 6:34:35 AM

When my son was born he was 6 lbs 8oz I didn't have to have a c-section. With Katie she proably had a hard start to delivery and her little girl was at risk they probably decided on a c-section to make things easier for her and the baby.

Posted by: Jamie at Jul 1, 2007 2:48:31 PM

congrats to katie and peter on their little girl, can't wait to see what they will call her.And big deal if she had a c-section, i have 2 kids that were born this way and i am pregnant with my third child due in december, and this will be a c-section also, due to complications in the 2 pregnancies. Also if u want a natural birth after a section u r only allowed a certain time to be in labour for the previous scar tissue. So congrats again and katie it doesn't matter how u had ur daughter as long as she is healthy.

Posted by: laura at Jul 2, 2007 8:56:53 AM

Harvey was a natural birth, Junior a c-section. PA was quoted as saying this one was a planned c-section. You don't have to have a c-section if you've had one previously, my first was delivered by an emergency section, but my second was a natural birth.

Posted by: Elaine at Jul 2, 2007 10:00:44 AM

congratulations to the both of you! you deserve to have happiness after the year you've had. hope you enjoy the precious years of your little girls life. wishes and love to all five of you. p.s PRECIOUS is a beautiful name for your new bundle of joy!

Posted by: Honor at Jul 2, 2007 10:57:21 AM

Congrats to Katie and Peter and I'm dying to know the name.

It is Greek tradition to have the first born son named after their father, but Katie didn't want Junior to have the same name as his dad, so she called him Junior, (rather than the same name) and his middle names are his grandfather's (Peter's dad's) name.

Katie has said already despite loving the name Crystal, she would never call her baby that because that is the title of her book. She also said though stating earlier she would call her baby girl ''Pink'' or ''Princess'' this was a joke, and that she would never choose a name like that or like apple, because they would be picked on in school, and in her own words, ''she's a person not a fruit bowl.'' lol.

I'm excited to hear the name!

Posted by: Heather at Jul 2, 2007 3:03:59 PM

I missed some parts in my earlier post, my bad!

Harvey's name is Harvey Daniel, - Harvey is after Katie's Grandfather and Daniel after her brother.

Katie wanted a natural birth but said that doctor's told her it may not be possible because she had a ceasarean with Junior. She had a natural birth with Harvey.

Posted by: Heather at Jul 2, 2007 3:18:45 PM

Katie had a section with Junior - it is quite accepted to have subsequent babies the same way - though of course not compulsory.

I had a natural delivery of a 9lb 13oz baby with no drugs too - but so what? I'm sure Katie and Peter are just pleased their daughter is here safely.

Posted by: Rachel at Jul 2, 2007 4:09:08 PM

Congratulations!!! Peter and Katie and boys! So glad this has all gone ok for you both after the year youve had.
I was thinking about names like Heavenly because I know Katie likes Angel but Mel b just used it. Or what about Jewel or an angels name like Gabriella? I know you hate the fruit names like apple and peach so go through all the sparkly ones like glitter and platinum or treasure or call her princess or baby princess and just use baby its cute. Good luck with her cant wait to see the photos. I am blessed with a son and a daughter but my daughter has become my best friend.

Posted by: Anne Moore at Jul 2, 2007 4:23:12 PM

Katie and Peter are NOT calling her Crystal, she has just launched her book here in the UK called Crystal - Peters mother and father are both greek, hence Junior Savaas Andre (not with the A AT THE END!!!.

Im so pleased everything went ok for them and had the baby girl they so wanted - they've had a horrible year, with Harvey in and out of hospital (as well as him being blind and has growth problems etc bless him) and Peter seriously ill with meningitus, that it really must have knocked the doodoo out of her.

i cant wait to see the pictures of baby.

i like these guys, they are both funny down to earth, no heirs and graces, people who tell it as it is,and Jordan aka Katie has a good head on her for dealing with all that crap she gets from the media..as well as coping with Harveys condition, albeit with the help of her mum, and now a hired nanny ,,,and why not good luck to them

congrats guys

Posted by: billy at Jul 3, 2007 12:05:48 PM

well done to the both of them i bet she is beautiful i dont know why people are saying about the section the baby could of been breech or in distress that is probably the reason why they done a section. well done again my little boy shares the sam birthday as harvey and i am really pleased they have finally got a little girl.

Congrats Katie and Peter. Hope your little girl grows up with a strong name that means something. I love your show.

Posted by: amber at Jul 3, 2007 4:59:58 PM

Congratulations to the all the family !!
I dont know what the big deal is about her having a csection, she no doubt went private anyway so prob paid for it all herself so who cares. We all give birth in different ways. My sister had an emergency csection with her first one and wanted a natural one with her second but was told she could not due to the cut. I had a natural birth with both mine with no drugs or anything my first weighed 9lb 7oz and my second was 12lb 2oz. As long as the baby is healthy and mum is too then thats the most important thing. Whatever she names her i am sure it will be beautiful!!

Posted by: Amie at Jul 4, 2007 12:38:00 PM

I don't know why people on here are so judgmental about women who have c-sections. Having a natural birth is not some badge of honor that makes you a better woman or mother. In the past, many women died from childbirth, as well as many babies. Infant mortality has decreased dramatically as doctors have been able to perform c-sections. Many grandmother died in childbirth, and I am confident that would not have occurred if she could have benefited from modern technology. Just because you know someone who still natural childbirth, or whose baby weighed this or that, does not mean that it would in the health interests of another. If a one-size-fits all approach worked in medicine, many ailments would be completely eliminated because doctors would not have to look at our individual medical histories, etc. Each woman's/baby's needs, especially during childbirth, is different.

In this case, the mother is healthy and so is the child. Congratulations to her for the new arrival of a healthy baby--that is all that matters. Not whether the baby came via c-section etc.

Posted by: Annie at Jul 4, 2007 7:18:53 PM

Come on! Give us a name! lol! Congrats to them!

6lbs is small compared to the average baby (http://www.newmomsforum.com/what-is-the-average-weight-of-a-newborn-baby/) She had a c-section, most of which are delivered earlier than the due date (to avoid going into labor) thus the reason for the 6lbs ;)

Posted by: Emily at Jul 4, 2007 11:51:33 PM

Well said Annie!

The baby actually weighed 6lb 13oz which is almost 7lb and completely average. Like Emily said the baby was probably early because of planned c-section which would obviously affect the weight. The main thing is both mum and baby are healthy and happy and i wish them all the happiness they deserve.

Posted by: Debbie at Jul 6, 2007 6:05:55 AM

Congratulations Katie, Peter, Harvey & Junior.
Bet she is just beautiful - am living over in Mallorca and just seen the news today can you believe - watched the baby episode on ITV 2 the other night and also wanted to commend you on the wonderfully dignified way that you dealt with your previous loss - must have been horrendous to have to deal with that in front of the cameras etc but as you have said - a contract is a contract and through thick or thin you always honor your agreements.
HUGE ADMIRATION to you both from a gay couple who just adore you.

I'm reall happy for Katie and Peter, that they finally had the little girl they wanted so badly. I just hope they will name her something "normal", not like Pink or Princess like Katie said they would name her before ..
I bet she's super cute, both of her brothers are cute and especially Junior is adorable!

Posted by: Sara at Jul 7, 2007 11:09:12 AM

Thanks, Annie! Neither my son nor I would be here if it wasn't for my c-section.

Besides, if one gets right down to it ANY female mammal can give birth. It's not rocket science or anything - it just happens when the proper time comes. The mother has no choice in the matter.

In other words, one should never be too smug about having given birth vaginally - cats and dogs and mice and pigs etc. (get my drift?) do it all the time. LOL

I guess what I'm trying to say is that it's the proper RAISING of our children that makes us good mothers, not how our babies were born.

Posted by: mom4bob at Jul 8, 2007 12:29:59 PM

CONGRATS to katie and peter i think they are two of the most normal celebrities out there and who cares if she had a c section or if they call their daughter crystal at the end of the day its up to them and i bet whatever they call her it will be beautiful and i hope they both continue to do well!!!!
