Child support predictions for Diddy following split

Tags: Legal issues , News , Split

Page Six of the NY Post is speculating as to how much money the recent split with his longtime girlfriend Kim Porter could cost music mogul Sean 'Diddy' Combs.  The couple, who have three children together, called it quits last week reportedly due to Diddy's inability to commit or settle his partying ways. Kim, who took her children and moved out of Diddy's apartment into a house she chose in California, publicly admitted to ending the relationship, releasing the following statement:

In ending this relationship, I made a decision that was in the best interest of myself, Sean and our family. I look forward to moving on with my life and my career, and wish him prosperity, health and happiness in life and in love. We will remain friends and committed parents to our children.

Page Six is estimating that this split could cost Diddy somewhere around $1.2 million a year in child support alone. Currently Diddy has to pay his oldest son's mother, stylist Misa Hylton-Brim, $30,000 a month in child support for their son Justin Combs. If a judge follows this precedent, Kim could be looking at receiving the same if not more for each of her children, earning her at least $90,000 per month in child support for her children with Diddy, 10-year-old Christian and 7-month-old twins girls D'Lila Star and Jesse James.  Celebrity divorce attorney Raoul Felder told Page Six,

With Misa Hylton-Brim receiving approximately $30,000 a month, there is no reason that Ms. Porter shouldn't be able to get close to $100,000 or more per month in child support. That amount accounts for Porter having three children with Combs and inflation in the years since Misa received the ruling in her case.

Do you think Diddy will have to pay Kim over $1 million a year in child support?  Should he have to pay that much?

She'll be getting 100k a MONTH? Goodness, that is crazy ! It doesnt cost that much to raise a kid !

He should pay as much as he's got. If he wants to have kids with all these women, he should support them. It is ridiculous to assume that he can make all that money and then NOT share it with his children.

He should pay using the same formula other dads paying child support are using. Whatever state they are filing in will set it at what is expected based off his salary. The amount sounds extreme but if that is what the state orders then so be it. He is no different than any other dad or mom paying support other than his income being large. Fair is fair.

Yea I think he should pay it, he has 3 kids with her, and is worth a lot of money. Usually the more money you have, the more child support you give because your children are gonna have a lavish lifestyle, they won't be your average type kids.

He should pay the same % (based on income) all other fathers pay. The way child support is worked out here is that when the parents split the child's standard of living doesn't change.

I personally think it's all relative. If a man makes $30,000 a year, his child support should be based off of that, same with a man who makes $250k or even a million. He's afforded Kim and his children a certain kind of lifestyle for years now and I see no reason why that should stop just because he can't stay faithful and she's not willing to put up with it.

You know at first I was going to comment that the amount of child support she's going to possibly receive is outrageous. I mean almost 100 grand a month! But, after reading the other few comments I have to say I completley agree with them. Diddy should be subject to the same child support laws of his state that all parents in his state who pay are subject to. If they do Diddy a favor and drastically reduce his child support regardless of his income then that opens the door to other parents being able to request the same thing. Which would not be fair. Diddy should be treated just like every other parent and if he makes a ton of money which causes him to pay a whopping amount of child support then so be it. The law is the law.

I think that is a crazy amount. I doubt that diddy is not sharing his wealth with his kids, I've seen some of the thing he has brought them.

My thing is does kid and most importantly the Courts think that diddy is not going to take care of his kids afther the two slpit. Of course he is. So I don't think he should pay her 1 million dollars for kids he is already going to take care of and spend money on.

I think if both parents are making good money( I don't think kim is broke) and are both able to financially support their kids than I don't see where child support orders is right

Greed does it every time!!!! That is a ridiculous amount of money that should be paid for CHILD support because we all know that it will be used to maintain the mother's lifestyle. Women should have some dignity and use their own resources to sustain their life. Children need to be fed, cloth and educated that’s it. Everything else is a luxury, I don’t care how much money the man makes the money should be used to care for the children and no child needs that much money to live.

Posted by: meela at Jul 16, 2007 1:17:04 PM

This money is really alimony disguised as child support. No law requires moms to spend child support on the kids and many moms steal the money from the kids and spend it on themselves. Child support should be based on actual needs of the child, not income.

In NY State, if the non-custodial parent makes more than $80,000 a year, it is up to the judge to decide whether to adhere to the schedule or not.

http://www.nyc.gov/html/hra/html/revenue_investigation/OCSE_child_support_calculator.shtml

That being said, I think $100,000 would be excessive. But the odds are not in Diddy's favor as he already pays the most support in NYS.
From what I have seen in the tabs, Diddy is not slighting his children is any way. He has assumed responsibility for Kim's eldest son with Al B. Sure. I don't think they'll feel left out at $25,000 a month as opposed to 100.

Posted by: sweetdiva at Jul 16, 2007 3:45:41 PM

well.... I knew their marriage/coupledom would not last.
Diddy is an extremely wealthy man and Kim has three of his babies. Pay up dude, if that is what the court orders or what her lawyers can get!!!!

Posted by: Hollister at Jul 16, 2007 3:55:42 PM

It shouldn't be based on his income, it should be a flat rate for every guy.

Posted by: Nicoletta at Jul 16, 2007 4:42:30 PM

I wanted to add that a father shouldn't be reduced to being just a paycheck.

Posted by: Nicoletta at Jul 16, 2007 4:43:59 PM

It should be what the courts order. Child support is used to pay mortgages, cars, insurance, education, and any general bills for things that are used for the child (even if the mom uses those things, too). It can be used to pay housekeepers, nannies, for furniture, whatever Kim decides. It's life. He has to pay up. I'm sure they'll settle out of court. 100K a month is nothing to him.

I would really be intrested to know the acually numbers of mothers that have to pay child support.

Posted by: sage at Jul 16, 2007 10:33:14 PM

I think this amount is OUTRAGEOUS!!!!. The twins aren't even a year old. They don't need private school tuition, or a driver hired or a bodygaurd. Kim doesn't have a job, I think she got back with diddy on porpose, just to have his children, then she would split. Come on, moving to L.A. She lived with him in NYC and is from Atlanta. What is she doing in LA. If diddy is worth $400 million, he doesn't have that rolling around in the bank somewhere. That money is just supporting Kim.

Posted by: Brielle at Jul 17, 2007 5:54:31 AM

Maybe Kim has figured out that if she can’t have his heart, she’ll take his money!

Posted by: laila at Jul 17, 2007 11:51:53 AM

that is absolutely ridiculous amount. i only get 500 a month for my daughter.

Her dad left and i didnt want child support but he insisted.

i just cant believe that she gets that much. there goes the kids inheritence. she has to remeber that only ones to get hurt in this will be her kids. their the ones i fell sorry for.
