Baby4_2 Upon her christening this morning, the name of Crown Prince Frederick and Crown Princess Mary's daughter, born April 21st, was revealed. The 10-week-old princess is named Isabella Henrietta Ingrid Margrethe. Isabella's names are all drawn from family history -- the Spanish version of Mary's middle name, Elizabeth, her maternal grandmother, paternal grandmother, and paternal great-grandmother.

The family posed for photos at the ceremony (dad cried) -- but Isabella was sleeping! Christian, 20 months, looked over the press and crowd gathered for the ceremony.

The godparents of the baby were Princess Mathilde of Belgium (also godmother to Princess Alexia of the Netherlands), Princess Alexia of Greece, Dr Nadine Johnston, Christian Buchwald, Peter Heering (husband of Mary's lady-in-waiting, Caroline Heering) and Marie Louise Skeel. Also in attendance were Princes Haakon and Mette-Marit of Norway and Princess Victoria of Sweden, all of them godparents to Christian. Mary's siblings, who reside in Australia, couldn't attend the event, but Mary's father and step-mother were present.

Isabella is a lovely name, and it's cute. It really suits this cutie baby!! Her brother is also lovely, and he's a big boy now!!

Bless this family!

Just a correction; Isabella isn't Crown Princess Mary's nickname. The connection to Mary's name is that her middle name is Elizabeth and the Spanish version of that is Isabella. But it's not Mary's nickname and I don't think they named her Isabella because of Mary's middle name, but because they both liked the name.

A little more info; Henrietta is after Mary's mother who died 10 years ago from complications from a heart surgery, Ingrid after Crown Prince Frederik's maternal grandmother, who died in 2000, shortly before he met Mary, and Margrethe is of course after the Queen, Isabella's paternal Grandmother.

YAY! Their son has my favorite name for a boy, and now their daughter has my favorite name for a girl. Congrats to Isabella and Christian!

Very unexpected choice for her first name, but it's gorgeous :) Isabella is perfect for a princess, and her middle names obviously are very significant family names. The whole family is beautiful :D

I'm glad they didn't name her first name Ingrid or Margrethe and instead went original ! I'm not a believer in naming a child (first name) after a parent or very close relative, have no objections to middle names though. I just think it was way too predictable with Prince Christian that he was going to be a Christian and we can now also assume when Prince Christian has kids, his firstborn son will have to be Frederick whether he likes it or not, because it's tradition! Isabella is a name fit for a beautiful little princess, it is gorgeous and perfect for her I think. She looks so much like her father :)

A darling little girl and a beautiful family! The names are great too!

Princess Mary always looks great and so at ease. I enjoy to see photos of this family and wish them all the best.

Isabella looks like a porcelain doll lying there in her mothers arms. So perfect and so beautiful...

I like all the names they chose, but I'm not sure about the order.

One more correction: the Spanish version of Elizabeth is not "Isabella", but "Isabel". Isabella is the Italian version.

It seems we have at least two CBB named Isabella: the Danish princess and Isabella Damon. Is there any more famous little Isabellas that I don't remember now?

I love the name - It's different, but beautiful, and suits the little Princess. It's also much more modern than the other names they might have chosen, so that's nice, and will be good for when she's older. Lovely pictures. What a lovely family.

Caro, Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman's daughter is also named Isabella.

Caro,

Sean Astin has a younger daughter named Isabella.

As far as I know, Kirk Cameron's adopted daughter is also named Isabella and Lori Loughlin has a daughter Isabella Rose.

Apparently Frederik and Mary chose it while having a look at Frederik's royal genealogical tree. They apparently found Isabella and liked it. There were a couple of Isabella's in royalty, Isabel of Spain (the Catholic Queen, as she was known, who funded Colombus expedition to America) and Isabella of France.

Of course, one can speculate about Mary's second name, Elizabeth, and the conection, although it's unlikely. She was also born (the baby) the same day as Queen Elizabeth, but I also doubt they chose it because of that.

While I like the name, I think it's far too common and typical for a royal. The other names were expected though.

I liked the election of godparents and that they decided to include Mathilde and Alexia! Shame Mary's sisters and nephews couldn't be there.

A detail about Mary's dress, it was apparently designed by Lithuanian designer Juozas Statkevičius, who also dressed other Hollywood stars, such as Charlize Theron,
