  8. Ashley Says:

    Such a cute family–and I can’t believe Shiloh is 15 months already!

Everytime I see or hear of them being in a new place, I always wonder about the kids. I know Angelina has expressed that she wants to expose her children to a variety of places, cultures, etc., but I feel as though some stability, particularly for their children attending school, is important too.

Right before Shiloh was born, the Jolie-Pitts were living in Paris. Then, the baby was born in Namibia. They picked up again and were in L.A. for a while, then lived in India (where Angelina filmed A Mighty Heart), New Orleans, Prague (while Angie filmed another movie), and who knows where next? And all of those spots in just 15 months’ time!

And of all those places, I remember photographs of Maddox going to school in L.A., New Orleans, and Prague. And this has just been in a period a little over a year long (since Shiloh was born 15 months ago). Seems unfair to have your child attend school and then uproot him to a new place, and new school, a few weeks or months later.

I know that the children will benefit immensely from having traveled the world and having been immersed in many different cultures. However, the constant travel and moving around and changing schools seems like it will be damaging to Maddox. Reminds me of friends who describe themselves as “Army Brats,” moving around to different places only to leave a short while later, and how they always had to readjust, make new friends, and before they could really even make close friends with someone, they were off to a new place.

    Thoughts?

  9. Colleen Says:

Ashley, I’m going to have to disagree with you on this. I feel that although the kids to travel a lot, they still have the same home base in LA. Unlike so-called “Army Brats”, the Jolie-Pitt kids always end up back in LA, in the same home and the same surroundings. I believe they attend the same school in LA as they did in Prague (U.N. School?), so the curriculum is the same. Also, one of their good friends is Adam Pearl, Adam and Mariane have the luxury of traveling as well and have been seen with Angie and company in various locations.

  10. gabriella Says:

    Shiloh is so darn cute.

  11. Nicole Says:

I also think that they have the same few houses - Angie’s said that they have different toys in different houses, so it seems like they’ve got a few places they stay in every time.

  12. Renee Says:

Ashley I have to disagree. These kids are getting to experience many things that adults don’t even get to. Education doesn’t just have to be in a classroom and I think when they are older, they will look back at all the places they went when younger and be amazed in a good way.

  13. Adore1a Says:

There always have to be some one who can’t simply enjoy the pics but have to show their concern about other people’s business. Like they KNOW what’s BEST for the J-P kids.

  14. estrell Says:

This kids also gets attentions and love from their parents. They don’t just leave their kids behind. Most of the time the kids are with them. They have good education also and tutor. They are not neglected kids for sure.

  15. Maya Says:

Maddox is only 6 years old - I’m not sure he even started the first grade yet! I don’t think they’re missing out on the school experience as of yet. I’m sure once the kids get older Angie and Brad won’t travel as much or not together anyway.

  16. Natasha Says:

Adore1a, she was just making a comment, not saying they are bad parents.

  17. PSB Says:

Shiloh even looks like Brad from behind! That’s definitely his little girl. I love the sleeping Mad picture too. They are the cutest family.

I think it’s fine for them to travel a lot now, while the kids are young. If Brad and Angie are serious about “semi-retiring” from films, then maybe they are just trying to do a bunch of them while it’s still convenient to schlepp the kids around with them (not that it’s ever convenient at all to schlepp around four tiny kids!). I’m sure they’ll slow down once Maddox is in school full-time. I agree that kids need structure, but maybe they do it in other ways, such as a meal or bedtime routine. Even though they are hands-on parents, they probably have a staff who helps the kids get acclimated to each place.

  18. Linlin Says:

Awww. Shi is truely lovely. Angelina’s smile is just shiny. Looking at the way Brad holding his children just melt my heart.

  19. Annoynomus Says:

Ashley, I have to disagree as well. Angie has stated that the kids attend the International School, so the curriculum is the same wherever they go. Also, like Colleen said, they do have a home base (it is actually in New Orleans, though, not in LA). In addition to that, Angie and Brad have stated that they are both going to take a year off from work next year. Therefore, the kids won’t be traveling nearly as much, if at all, next year.
Anyway, Shiloh is a cutie-pie! I am glad that we have been seing so many pics of Angie holding her, as hopefully that will finally put an end to all the “Angie doesn’t love Shiloh as much as her adopted kids” rumors/comments.
All of that said, I do wonder where little Pax was (mind you, this is nothing against Angie, Brad, or their family. I am just making an observation), since he was the only one not pictured. I also want to comment, to the staff of CBB, that I think that saying “…she, Brad Pitt, and the kids (who were sleeping)” is a bit innaccurate, since Shiloh is clearly not sleeping. Also, if I’m not mistaken, Shiloh is 14 months old, not 15.

Sarah’s note: You’re right, I made a mistake on her age! I also put ‘other’ so hopefully that’s clearer that I was referring to the additional kids sleeping.

  20. Gabby Says:

I don’t know why some people get so defensive when someone says something or sounds like they are saying something bad about the Jolie-Pitts. They are just making a comment to express a view. That’s it! Ashley was stating an opinion in a polite, non offensive way. Angelina and Brad are not gods, their just regular people who are trying ro be the best parents they can be.

  21. Karen B. Says:

Ashley your question comes up a lot on Jolie-Pitt threads but I never see similar questions/comments on the threads of other celebrities. Michelle Pheiffer has talked about how until the kids reached 6th? grade, she would pull them out of school when she or her husband were involved in a movie. Will Smith has said how his kids “grew up on tour buses” and how to this day where he and Jada go the kids follow. Matt Damon talked of how his kids (this includes Luciana’s 9 year old from a previous marriage) go everywhere he goes. Cate Blanchett and Kate Winslet, two of the hardest and busiest working women in film also take their children with them. All these kids are home schooled and follow their parents on movie sets. Their lifestyle is no different than Brad and Angelina’s but I find it strange how Brad and Angelina’s choices are the only ones questioned.

IMO, home and security are where the parents are. Whether you’re a celebrity or an army brat. Oh and for the record, I’m not jumping on you for stating your opinion. It just struck me as strange that I have never seen the same opinion given under the pictures of other celebrities.

Lastly, it is easy for you and me to look at pictures and make judgments as to what is right or wrong about this family’s choices, when at the end of the day, we both THINK we know a heck of a lot more than we really do.

  22. anna Says:

Is Shiloh wearing the same dress that Zahara was wearing in the newborn photo shoot in Namibia? Looks to be the same colour and style. So cute if it is wearing her sister’s hand me downs!

  23. Chloe Says:

Just a tiny thing, but isn’t Shiloh still only 14 months old? She’ll be 15 months on August 27.

Ashley, that might be an issue later on but at Maddox’s age I still think the whole thing is just a big adventure. Wherever he goes he has his mom, dad, brothers and sisters as a source of constancy and companionship, and he always looks happy and cheerful going to and from school so I doubt making friends is an issue for him. As people have mentioned, the Jolie-Pitts also have their base homes in LA and New Orleans which have everything ready for them. Also, the actual process of travelling wouldn’t be half as stressful as we would imagine from our own experiences, because they would have their private jet decked out exactly as they liked it, probably with toys everywhere! As a place to sleep and play, the plane probably feels like a second home to the kids by now.

    Sarah’s note: Thanks, fixed.

  24. Lorus Says:

Seeing Brad with his kids just makes me melt. I love how we went back and forth so he could be the one to move them and not a bodyguard.

  25. luce Says:

Adore1a - imagine how boring this site would be if all anyone did was go ooo! over the pics every day. ;) Comments are interesting, and it wasn’t meant nastily so please don’t get so bothered. :)

  26. Mary Says:

Matt Damons new movie was shot in about 5 different countries and his family was with him in all those countries including his 9 yr old step daughter. Tom Cruise and Kate have been back and forth all over Europe and USA shuttling Suri around and I never hear people wonder out loud about stability for the children, is it only the Jolie-Pitt’s children that these concerned citizens worry and care about?

It is interesting Ashley points out the places the family traveled to because Angelina was shooting movie but ignores the fact that they were in New Orleans for 5months because Brad was shooting a movie or that they were in LA while Brad shot O13.

If people have concern for the welfare of children, worry about your own or the children in orphanage not about kids that lavished with love, care and attention by their loving parents.

  27. Char Says:

Shiloh is so adorable. She is to me by far the cutest celebrity baby. With those parents, who wouldn’t be? She quite resembles Brad, but she has a lot of Angelina too. I also love the stability they found and the problem-free atmosphere that you see with them despite having children of so many different nationalities and cultures! It’s truly amazing that they adopted Pax, for example, already grown up and made him feel at ease so easily, even speaking different languages!

Speaking about geographical stability I also think it’s important for them… to go to school and see the same people for a while, but I’m sure the other kids attending the type of schools they attend are used to these kind of moving life all the time. It’s complicated to understand from the point of view of us, but they are kids, and if that’s what you see sinced you are a baby that becomes normal to you, so I see no problem in it. Perhaps they will decide to settle down in a bit, when the kids are older and more dependant on society…

  28. essie Says:

HOME is where the parents are!!! So, it doesn’t matter what bed those kids wake up in they won’t feel disoriented because their parents will be there to kiss them good morning!! And that’s all that matters.

Kids adapt well to any situation. No need to worry about them.

  29. Fynn Says:

I agree with Chloe that when we imagine traveling with four little kids, most of us probably imagine the stresses of family-traveling the way WE travel, not the way the Jolie-Pitts travel. A professional likely makes makes their arrangements. They use a private jet on their own schedule. They don’t do their own driving/navigating in unfamiliar cities. They may not even do all their own packing. They can afford the best, most kid-friendly accommodations … Their circumstances make it easier for them to make travel adventuresome–and not stressful–for their kids.

  30. Josie Says:

There is also the most adorable pic of shiloh giving angie a wet kiss here’s the link http://popsugar.com/gallery/111482?page=0,0,3

  32. PSB Says:

Josie that picture is the CUTEST thing! Thanks for posting the link! I think people would feel very differently about Angie’s feelings for Shiloh if they saw that picture. Pure love and sweetness!

  33. LAILA Says:

I tend to agree with you Ashley. I’ve never understood Brangelina’s insistence on this type of nomadic lifestyle. Kids need and thrive on stability; a constant group of friends, a set school and a definite home base. And being uprooted and dropped into a new environment every few weeks has to be disruptive on some level, no matter how many privates planes you get to fly on or how many luxury suites you get to stay in. So I hope that Brangelina don’t plan on doing this indefinitely the one good thing is that most of the kids are probably still too young to be too disoriented by the constant moving around.

  34. Annoynomus Says:

Laila- I am sure that Angie and Brad are doing what they feel is best for their kids. Just because they move around a lot does not mean they don’t have “stability”. I am sure they have some things that remain the same no matter where they go, such as bedtime routinues. Also, they do, in fact, have a definite home base. It is in New Orleans. As for a set school, they actually have that as well. They go to the International School, so the curriculm is the same wherever they go. The only things that are different are the teachers, the other kids, and the location of the schools.
Anyway, the Jolie-Pitt kids look happy and well-adjusted to me!

  35. Fevvers Says:

Hey, Ashley I agree with you…sorry everyone. I grew up (in a milder form) like the Jolie-Pitts, changing countries every 2-3 years my whole life. We too lived in relative luxury with staff and people doing the moving for us etc etc. I can’t say I minded so much as a young child, I just accepted it. My sister hated it though…she really missed her routines ie her favorite walk to school or her old bedroom. It really hit in adolescence…entering those years with few old friends, and all those experiences of being the “new kid” meant that deep down even now I really see myself as never belonging anywhere. I think it really intensified those teenage feelings of being “different” and strange”. And lets face it, the reason everyone worries about te J-P is they are an EXTREME! Its not just new countries, Maddox has had continual upheaval in his family…first Brad then Zahara then Shiloh etc etc etc. And these kids are ADOPTED…Pax more than anyone would need stability and a sense of control over his own life. Not to mention thousands of paps swarming over you and weirdos(!) like us writing about you on blogs! But Brangelina are the parents, its up to them. I wish them luck.
