CBB reader spots Angelina at the playground with Pax and Zahara

CBB reader Shevy had a celebrity sighting at an NYC playground this morning. She writes,

I was with my friend Cathy and our kids at the Carl Schulz Park on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. At around 10 AM we moved over to a different playing area, where my friend showed some recognition like she knew someone.

As I looked closer I saw a woman who looked a lot like Angelina Jolie -- but she was so inconspicuous, standing on the climbing frame with Zahara. They also didn't really have a crowd around them. Angelina was there with Zahara and Pax and a bodyguard.

They moved over to the monkey bars and slides and at that point, she had a rather large crowd of people -- at a slight distance -- snapping pictures with their phones. Angelina was playing with the kids, really hands on. She went down the slide with Z on her knee and Pax next to her, and was helping Pax go down the ladder and across the monkey bars.

The kids were running around (not really noticing the crowds!) wanting to go again and again on the slide etc. Angelina didn't really react to the crowds either -- but she didn't ignore them. She was busy with playing with her kids. It was nice to see her kids playing side by side with all the park go-ers, going down the slide with them etc.

As they were leaving the park they walked right by us and smiled. At this hour of the morning there are a lot of  babies with nannies and moms.  I heard people calling their friends/family and telling them (I guess just like I did)!

they are all gorgeous as usual, but i wonder if angelina looks even thinner in real life...she looks so incredibly narrow in the side shot.

i wonder if she misses having a normal life? like too bad you couldn't just go up to her and strike up a conversation like you would any other mother.. i wonder if celebrities miss just meeting new people? they always have to live their lives with people protecting them...

Posted by: Bella Mama at Sep 7, 2007 1:46:02 PM

not that she ever really had a normal life since her parents are celebrities... but i guess miss living her life w/o the paparazzi hounding her..

Posted by: Bella Mama at Sep 7, 2007 1:50:10 PM

Ok when i first saw her- she looked more slight. i don't think skinnier than in the pics. but def skinny!!!
and btw i felt like going over to her- not in a celebrity way to get her 'autograph' but almost like i 'know' her so well and she knows me (yeh right!!!) i had to remind myself that she has no clue who i am lol

I wish they'd come play at OUR playground! It would be great to see Angie and her little ones here.

This family can just do no wrong by me.

It's good that folks give them their space and not cramp them like the paparazzi do. I mean do the paparazzi actually go into the play area? I hope not bc I think that should be against the law especially when their are other children. I know I'd be snapping pics as well however I don't believe in approaching celebs when they're out with their kids. It seems like everyone was just happy to have a glance without being too nosy!

The kids look happy just being normal kids!

Great sighting Shevy! Thanks for sharing the story & your photos too!

Thanks NYC for giving Angelina some space to play with her kids!

Bless Angelina!

Well that's a super cool experience to have! If they'd like to visit somewhere family oriented and outdoorsy where they would never be bothered (most likely they would be treated like any other family) they should visit Duluth, MN. It's soooo low-key here. I can totally see those kids playing at the playground down the street and nobody even noticing. How refreshing that would be! I'm sure there are loads of small townish places like that in the US--they just have jobs that take them to the big cities where people are a lot more cosmopolitan! Alaska, where I grew up, would be another great place for them to go. Not Anchorage, like...Homer, or Seward, or someplace further south. No one would have a clue, and if someone suspected, they wouldn't be weird or freaky about it. Everyone is so normal and friendly there, and they would not be star struck at all!

I don't think that her weight matters at all. What a person DOES matters and she seems to DO a lot of very admirable things. I really appreciate the example she sets for so many people.

It's just good to know they can still live a somewhat normal life, as far as taking the children to the park and not being hassled for anything. :)

And thanks for sharing, Shevy!

I'd love to see Angie in Duluth, MN -- that's my hometown :)

When I was visiting NYC with my kids we would also go to this park. I wish I was there at the same time as Angie!!!!

Angie looks healthy, naturally thin...The kids are so cute. I love how the JP's have such a strong and loving family...

That must have been so neat to see Angelina and 2 of her kids in person at the park. I know that the paparazzi drives Angelina and her kids crazy, but that's part of being a celebrity. It's so good to see her interact with her kids and hear about her going down the slide with them. Thanks Shevy for sharing your story and photos!

Thanks Shevy for sharing your photos and story. I love to hear about stories where folks actually have sent or met them. That is awesome. I just love this family, i wish they would venture over to Louisville, KY. Maybe like come stay a week for the KY derby!!! Anyone think so? :)

Posted by: Shannon at Sep 7, 2007 6:29:47 PM

she's got a little booty!!! that's so cool! i think some of those pics are photo-shopped to make her look scary skinny. she just looks naturally thin, in a good way :)

and i really like her purse.

Thanks for sharing. Love Angelina!!

I miss the curvy sexy tomb raider/mrs.smith angelina =\ She looks so skinny and she isn't naturally that skinny.

Posted by: Scarlett B at Sep 7, 2007 9:51:57 PM

How Adorable!haha

THANKS FOR SHARING. OH HOW I WISH THEY WILL COME TO THE BRONX ZOO IN NY, WHERE I WORK, SINCE ITS BEEN SO DEAD THERE BECAUSE ITS BACK TO SCHOOL TIME, THEY COULD REALY HAVE A GREAT TIME.

Posted by: Rubi at Sep 7, 2007 10:07:10 PM

Sounds good to me Shannon! I grew up in Louisville, but live in Knoxville, TN now. I always loved seeing what stars came to the Derby each year! Imagine how cute Z and Shiloh would be in their Derby hats!

Posted by: legemc at Sep 7, 2007 10:34:42 PM

Thank you for sharing. I wonder the same things about everyday life and wouldn't it be cool if other kids could just run up and play with hers like other kids do normally,or just talk regularly as parents do.
I live up by Traverse City MI and people are relaxed here as well. Nice to see though that in a big city they can find a place and relax and have some fun together.

Posted by: whispy at Sep 7, 2007 11:22:07 PM

Legemc-well that is really cool. When did you move to TN? Do you happen to ever see any of the country stars there? :) yeah i was born and raised in Louisville KY and still here. Married with 2 children! I love when i actually hear from someone that is from here.

Posted by: Shannon at Sep 7, 2007 11:52:59 PM

I would love to see Shiloh playing in some pictures at this Park with Angie one day.

Posted by: lori at Sep 8, 2007 12:54:00 AM

lori- I would also love to see pictures of Shi and Angie at the park, but, given the fact that Shi isn't even 16 months old yet, she is probably a bit to young for playgrounds yet. There really isn't much she could do there, except maybe for playing in the sandbox if there's one or swinging on the baby swings (again, if there are any at that park).

When she gets a bit older and therefore can do some of the activities that the other kids do, I'm sure we'll see a lot more of her (for that matter, we're already seeing a lot more of her than we did in her first year of life.).

Posted by: Annoyomus at Sep 9, 2007 2:01:15 AM

It's a sad sad day when a mother cannot enjoy a day at the park with her kids without other moms/caregivers snapping pictures of them. Has society gotten that shallow that they can't see that Angelina was in mommy mode and not movie star mode? Give the poor woman a break!
