She is DEFINITLY more than 3 months pregnant.

Another hot momma! She's such a beauty in her non-pregnant state anyway but pregnancy is doing the impossible and making her even more gorgeous. I can not wait to see this baby!

I believe this child will outshine Shiloh and Violet, although that's hard to imagine, but I think Halle one of the most beautiful women on the planet. I hope it's a girl!

She looks great, but that belly definately looks bigger then 3mths.. at least in comparison to my first and even second pregnancy.

Halle's bump DOES look a little big for three months, but I must confess I'm actually not surprised, and I don't think she is more than three months along (although, isn't she almost to her fourth month by now anyway?). Halle has diabetes, so it makes sense to me that she's probably going to have a bigger baby than most non-diabetic moms (most diabetic women give birth to large babies).

Anyway, I just don't think Halle would have lied about how far along she was. Yes, I know that celebs often give false due dates to the press, but Halle seems to be one of the rare few who is absolutly thrilled to tell the press about her pregnancy. In fact, right now, I'd say she's the exact opposite of Christina Aguliera (who still hasn't confirmed her rather obvious pregnancy)! In the interview were she announced her pregnancy, Halle seemed eager to give the press plenty of details. Therefore, I doubt she would have lied about how far along she is.

awww! I just wish her a safe pregnancy & healthy baby with her complications.

Trust God & everything will fall into place.

Any chance she's having more than one? :-)

Seriously, I'm delighted for her and wish her a safe and healthy pregnancy and delivery. As long as she takes care of her health and watches her diet she should be fine.

I feel bad for her if she's going to spend her whole pregnancy being asked those questions that can really hurt a pregnant woman's already fragile body image: "Are you sure you're not having twins?" "You're ONLY 3 months pregnant?" "You look bigger than 3 months." etc.

She looks great - look at those legs!

Posted by: emily at Sep 12, 2007 1:30:23 AM

Halle has Type 1 diabetes, and is probably very well controlled. Additionally, she is only at 14 weeks gestation so the fetus is not yet accumulating fat. Therefore, I don't believe that her larger belly could be attributed to a potentially bigger baby at this point.

She looks amazing.

Emily - I agree, seriously does she really need to explain herself. People are so critical!

Diana

I don't think people are being critical and calling her fat, I think they believe she gave a different due date or is having twins, which would mean her bump looks more appropriately sized for those circumstances. She's obviously not fat and is one of the most gorgeous celebrities ever. I think she looks amazing and is carrying quite well, though I agree with people who think she is further along than she is.

Assuming this is her first pregnancy (subsequent pregnancies make your belly bigger faster), that bump is really a lot larger and higher up than a normal 3 month belly. Your uterus rises during your first trimester and doesn't normally get up that high until later on. I personally think she had an amnio and waited to announce until after that, which would make her closer to 19-20 weeks---which is what she looks like to me.

Leave her alone.. She looks great! She isn't too big or too small. Every pregnant woman carries differently - every woman is unique in how she is built.

Schmoo is right, you can't attribute a larger belly to the diabetes at this stage. The reason that diabetic moms tend to have larger babies is that the majority of diabetic moms don't control their blood sugar. I highly doubt that would be the case with Halle, she's type 1 and has been on insulin since forever, and insulin offers the highest degree of control if taken properly. She wouldn't have been able to get pregnant if she weren't controlling it to begin with. The large baby thing with diabetetic pregnancy is called macrosomia...What happens is that when a woman has a higher blood sugar, it circulates in her system. What results, among other things, is that the urinates more frequently, she is thirsty, and the baby gets a high concentration of sugar in the blood he/she is receiving from mom. As a result, the baby produces more insulin (which requires him to be at the stage where his pancreas works) and stores some of that extra glucose as fat. The baby also will produce more urine, as the kidneys will be simultaneously trying to filter out glucose. The baby ends up being bigger because it is storing the excess energy as fat. This only happens when the mother's blood sugar is not managed. A diabetic mother who controls her blood sugar within normal parameters statistically is no different pregnancy wise than a normal woman. The reason we have so very many complications with diabetic or gestationally diabetic mothers is that they don't take it seriously and don't control it. Case in point--I am very insulin resistant, have taken upwards of 300 units of insulin a day during pregnancy, and my babies were 6 lbs 10 oz, and 7 lbs 5 oz, full term, both of which are actually UNDER the average full term baby weight in the US. The reason is that I managed my disease very tightly.

Anyway, the point of this was to explain the process of the diabetes during pregnancy, and clear up any misconceptions.

Considering how open she has been about her pregnancy and how thrilled she seems to be about discussing it, I think that, if she really WERE having twins, she'd have announced it.
