Courtneythornesmith_0506_cbb_2 Actress and author Courtney Thorne-Smith, 40, and her husband Roger Fishman, 47, are first time parents after welcoming son Jacob 'Jake' Emerson Fishman this morning. Despite being almost two weeks late, Courtney refused to be induced and went into labor on her own last evening. Jake, weighing in at 6 lbs, 13 oz, arrived this morning after 12 hours of labor. A friend tells OK,

They were surprised and of course delighted when Jake arrived. She had selected the name Maya in the event she was greeted by a girl baby instead of a boy. Courtney’s son’s middle name Emerson is also her father’s name.

She is happily breastfeeding at the moment and bounced back so fast from her delivery ordeal that she has been given the ‘all clear’ to leave the hospital tonight if she wants.

Everything happened so quickly that Courtney’s mom –- who had flown in for the birth weeks ago -– had already flown back home and wasn’t able to arrive in time.

Courtney's rep confirms to Us and People,

Mother and father are thrilled. And the baby is healthy. They say the baby is absolutely gorgeous.

The pregnancy, which was a surprise to Courtney, was announced in June. In September, she said,

It's such an amazing moment for both of us, because we both sort of had to say, 'I don't know if this is going to happen for me.' The fact it's happening is just astounding!

In her third trimester, Courtney appeared on the cover of Fit Pregnancy magazine. She and Roger decided not to find out the sex of the baby previous to the delivery.

Once I realized that I didn't care if it was a boy or a girl, I got into the adventure of not knowing.

Wow, this is a busy baby day! Wouldn't that be crazy if Courtney, Christina, and Nicole all had their babies today? And we already know it's boys for Courtney and Christina...will Nicole continue the boy trend??

Congratulations!!! It must be Baby Day...

Congrats to Courtney and her hubby. Jacob Emerson is a great name. However isn't it a little odd to refer to someone who has just given birth today as "bounced right back?" I wasn't out of bed for at least 12 hours after my delivery. Strange in my opinion. However I'm glad she has had a healthy baby and is reportedly feeling good!

How nice to see that she refused to be induced! No doubt her insistance on allowing the baby to come when he was ready contributed to her quick recovery. Labor inducing drugs are hard on both mother and baby. Congrats to Courtney!

I was just wondering yesterday if she had her baby when I was watching According to Jim and saw her trying to cover her stomach with a pillow!!

And it sure is a baby day!!

But for being two weeks late that baby was fairly small perhaps she wasn't really late afterall?!

Congrats to the couple!

i think it's cool that she decided not to be induced (nothing against moms who do, of course!). is there a certain length of time where afterwards a woman must be induced for the health of the baby? i thought that if the baby was a few weeks late they'd have to be induced, but maybe not. maybe i just think that though b/c i was 10 days late and had big complications from being a late baby.

I think it's fabulous she refused to be induced. I've always had an issue with the way the due date is calculated. ie. from the day of your last period. I remember arguing with the referring doc that my cycle was at least a week longer than the average (28 days) and shouldn't this be taken into account? And as we know, ultrasounds aren't 100% accurate in estimating the exact age of baby.

Aww I love hearing about older celeb moms having babies. You can always see how much more they seem to appreciate the chance to have a baby, since they weren't sure if they'd ever have one. Always makes me smile at how grateful they are. Congrats to the new parents!

Congrats to Courtney and Roger! I thought for sure they would have a girl, but I was wrong! Love the name. I also agree that I like that she wasn't induced. I refused induction as well after reading about pitocin in depth. While it's the right choice for some women, it wasn't for me. My son ended up coming at 41 weeks 3 days.

Congratulations to Courtney and Roger! Happy birth day Jake.

Michelle, I was up walking around immediately after both of my babies births. Nonmedicated birth and homebirth is wonderful ;-).
