CBB Exclusive: Soleil Moon Frye’s Little Seed(s)

Soleil_3_cbb Soleil Moon Frye is one busy mama! Between her hugely popular eco-friendly store The Little Seed in Larchmont Village, CA, her beautiful 2 ½-year-old toddler Poet Sienna Rose, being the wife of producer Jason Goldberg, and her second baby due any minute, Soleil is truly a multi-tasking mom. Soleil, 31, took time out of her packed schedule in late January for an interview and shoot with CBB.

Since you own such an amazing store, I can only imagine how beautiful your baby's nursery must be.

It’s finished now, but up until recently, I hadn’t even started it! Isn’t that hysterical? I own a baby store, and my own nursery was just completed! I was trying to figure out which would be more eco-friendly; to use all of Poet’s stuff, or get everything new from the store!

So I did a little of both. I tried to make the nursery as eco-friendly as possible by reusing some of Poet's furniture and introducing new pieces from the store.

I used Poet's changing table and armoire. I put non-toxic paint on the walls. I got an eco-friendly crib from my store, and all organic bedding by Coyuchi. I have an organic changing pad, organic clothing, and a bunch of other amazing goodies from the store, like rattles & teething toys, etc.

The Little Seed has been doing very well.

The response has been amazing. It’s great to have so much support from the community and the families who come in to our store.

The Little Seed is just lovely. What was the impetus for it?

When Poet was born, I had this whole new outlook on the world. My friends (and business partners) Paige Tolmach and Beth Birkett and I wanted to make a change.

Together, we spent hours and hours on the Internet to see how we could do that. To find the eco-friendly products that we wanted, we had to literally scour the globe, from places as far away as New Zealand, to little mom-and-pop shops in Utah.

We knew that if we wanted accessibility to products that were healthy for our babies as well as the environment, there had to be other moms out there who also felt the same way. And thus, The Little Seed was born.

Let’s talk about this other little seed, who’s about to be born!

I know! We don’t know what we’re having this time, which is very exciting. The first time we knew, and it was great. We’re trying hard not to break down and find out! When I get my sonograms done, I always say to the doctor, “Don’t tell me! Don’t tell me!”

How has the pregnancy been?

It’s been good! Apart from the first month when I was really sick, it’s been easy. And then I went into the second trimester feeling great, and I was saying, “This is glorious!” But now, I’m at the point where I can’t sleep well, and it’s getting a little uncomfortable.

How do you think Poet will be as a big sister?

She’s very happy about the baby coming. She’s always kissing the belly and hugging it. I’m so excited for her to be a big sister. I myself am a little sister; I have a big brother. It will be so cool for me to see the experience of being a big sister through Poet’s eyes.

What are your plans for when the baby comes?

I just want to spend as much time with these babies as possible! It’s great because we have the play area in the store, so I can bring them to work with me, too.

Eventually, I’ll go back to acting, but for right now, my children are the most important thing in the world to me.

Looking at Poet, I feel like I'm looking right at Punky Brewster! She is adorable. Soleil looks great, so happy!

Soleil was my very first favorite actress as a little girl, and I've kept up with her since. I am so happy that she has gotten involved in eco-friendly items with her store. She is so gorgeous, Poet is equally gorgeous, and I am sure this new little one will be as well!

Soleil looks blooming - absolutely radiant! And Poet is adorable. I'm loving her curly hair and gorgeous blue eyes.

I wish them well with their new arrival and can't wait to hear some news on when he/she is born!

Poet looks so much like my sister when she was little. Brown hair and awesome curls.

Posted by: Olivia at Feb 28, 2008 4:18:59 PM

She totally reminds me of Ashley Johnson (IMDB in link) from when she was a kid actor in Growing Pains.

Thanks for new Soleil pics, I was waiting for them!

Poet is so precious! what a sweet little girl, Soleil is beautiful.

It's cool to know that Soleil is still the down to earth girl I watched with the kids I took care of. I wish her to have a healthy baby. Her little girl is so adorable. I love the curly hair, reminds me of Soliel's brother MEENO. LOL. I've been a fan of hers and Meeno's for years and it's nice to see the success she deserves! Someday I'd like to visit her store and check it out.

It says that Soleil took time out to do an interview and photo shoot for CBB. How does that come about? Do you just have her number and contact her, or does she contact you and how does she know to do that? Just wondering.

Sarah's note: We approach the celebs for the most part.

Posted by: Lisa at Feb 28, 2008 8:38:18 PM

Sarah, I wanted to thank you ladies at CBB for the celebrity interviews. They are one of my favorite parts of this site.

Posted by: Judyb at Feb 28, 2008 9:00:14 PM

I love Poet's little curls!! So cute! And Soleil looks stunning herself! Can't wait to hear about and see the new baby boy or new baby girl!!

Thanks for sharing! I agree this celeb photo shoot/interviews just may be my new fav about this site! Soleil is strikingly beautiful and poet is adorable! I can't wait to see what they have! Try and set up a new photo shoot with MJH and their new babies together!

Sarah's note: People has that covered! You'll meet the new baby in the magazine. ;)

Posted by: Steph at Feb 28, 2008 9:34:19 PM

she is a very cute/pretty little girl

Posted by: Olivia at Feb 28, 2008 10:38:20 PM

I agree with most of you. Poet is ADORABLE. I love that picture of her posing with her hand on her face. SO CUTE. And the one where she is sat with mommy. *squeal* Poet looks more like Jason i think, but she has Soleil's nose and eyes. I can't wait to see pictures of the new baby, if it's a boy, she should name him Brandon, hehe (only kidding Soleil) Thank you CBB for bringing these gorgeous pictures to us Soleil fans. You have done us proud. :) :) :)

Posted by: claire at Feb 29, 2008 1:59:03 AM

poet is darling! and soleil seems very down to earth.

i love the idea of the store.. i hope more people get interested in organic kids products.

I'm not sure how eco-friendly it is to fly stuff in from new zealand and around the world though. using local stuff is always the way to go if you are trying to cut down on pollution and fuel consumption.

Posted by: danya at Feb 29, 2008 11:03:34 AM

PUNKY POWER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am the same age as Soleil and remember watching Punky Brewster before my fix of Knight Rider! LOL I have always thought she was great! Soleil was cute as a kid but became absolutely gorgeous as an adult! What a pretty little girl and Soleil's hubby is gorgeous also!

Posted by: asm1976 at Feb 29, 2008 11:06:56 AM

The name Poet is very fitting for a mommy named Soleil Moon Frye!

Posted by: asm1976 at Feb 29, 2008 11:09:04 AM

Poet is gorgeous! Oh my gosh those eyes and that curly hair. She is definitely her mom's daughter. Can't wait to see pics of the second baby.

Posted by: Mary at Feb 29, 2008 11:48:20 PM

Love this interview! Have just been on the Little Seed website and been enviously looking at the jewels (in the 'for mom' section), and noticed that they sell Jennifer Meyer jewelery. Isn't that Tobey Maguire's partner? I thought that was kinda cool. She makes really gorgeous stuff!

Sarah's note: Yes, Tobey's wife. :)

Posted by: Maddie at Mar 1, 2008 6:56:12 PM

Love Soleil, she is gorgeous!!! I love that her and Melissa Joan Hart are still such good friends. I wonder if their husbands like each other.
