Since the Wall Street Journal front page article about the Celebrity Baby Blog came out last Saturday ("Dress-Up: Moms
Put Their Tykes
In Stars' Clothes"), there have been a few posts on other blogs commenting on the article itself and the so-called obsession over what celebrity children are wearing.
The Wall Street Journal's own "The Juggle" work-life balance blog, posted "Gotta Get Suri’s Shirt! Parents Spend Time Trying to Dress Their Kids Like Celebrity Babies," New York Magazine's fashion blog, "The Cut," posted "Babies Really Don't Need to Dress Like Suri Cruise," and Scripps News Service posted an editorial called "Baby fashion goes too far." The common theme in these three posts is that mothers, especially Celebrity Baby Blog readers, are unhealthily obsessed with the fashion of celebrity children but I don't see it as any different than what most magazines are covering nowadays -- what celebrities themselves wear.
It's unfortunate that all three blogs as well as the original Wall
Street Journal article reduced the CBB to a blog simply about celebrity
baby fashion, because we pride ourselves on our wide coverage of news
and photos of celebrity pregnancies and their children. Yes, we do
discuss fashion and gear, but we also deal with parenting topics,
health, and do exclusive interviews with celebrities.
The examples of reader purchases that Rachel used, and then these blogs picked up on, were actually quite minor such as shoes, hair clips, and socks that cost under $35. To me, this is the equivalent of buying a lipstick when you want a new look. I think it's quite tame and it makes me laugh that these pieces have blown them so out of proportion. If it makes you feel good to buy your kid some super cute shoes, even if they cost 4 times what a pair at Target costs, what's the harm in that? How are you teaching your infant something negative by buying them the same hair clips that a celebrity baby has?
I think our obsession with celebrities in general is a little much, but it's ridiculous to focus on parents who buy their kids' stuff that celebrities have for their children. There is a much larger obsession with what adult celebrities are wearing, yet no one draws that parallel in those blogs, especially in the extremely image and fashion-focused New York Magazine. Not one of the stories point out the harm that any parent does by buying their kid a few items.
It's pretty obvious to me that CBB readers are not putting themselves out to buy these items. Yes, occasionally, readers do buy higher end items but I'm pretty sure it's not JUST because a celebrity owns the item but because they may not have been aware of it before seeing celebrities using the items.
Check out the purchases CBB readers have made from our I Bought It! columns (above photos are featured CBB Readers' children).
- The first post in the column

Update: Quotations added.
Originally posted May 16th: Actress Diane Farr, 38, played with son Beckett Mancuso, 14 months, at a Los Angeles, CA park on Thursday, May 15th. Diane, who is expecting twins this fall, sported a maternity tee featuring an infant wearing a pink hairbow and an "It's a girl" announcement. Dad is Seung Chung.
Speaking with TV Guide earlier this week about her departure from Numb3rs, Diane also talked about her pregnancy. When asked for her first words upon hearing that she would have three under two years old, Diane replied,
You couldn't possibly print the words that came out of my mouth. We were at the doctor to do the eight-week ultrasound, and I could clearly see that there were two fetuses on the monitor. So the technician and I sat there in silence for two minutes while I was hoping it was something else.
When questioned as to whether or not she used fertility drugs, Diane laughed before saying,
Any person who has a ten-month-old would tell you there's no way on earth they would take fertility drugs. Clearly, if I got pregnant on my wedding night, I didn't have any issues getting pregnant. There was no way I would take fertility pills with an infant.

Kansas City Royals' catcher John Buck, 27, has taken an emergency leave from the team after his wife Brooke gave birth 12 weeks early on Thursday, May 15th to twin sons. Cooper Buck was born first at 5:29 pm CT and weighed 4 lbs, 9 oz. He was followed Brody Buck at 5:31 pm, who weighed 4 lbs, 4 oz. The boys are reported to be doing well despite their early arrivals. However, Brooke did have a scare with her blood pressure according to John.
They finally let her go see the boys. It was a little scary, but we're in good shape now. Everybody is healthy, everybody is good. We've had a breath of fresh air and we should enjoy it now. Even though everything is okay now, they wanted me to come back totally free and fresh of any concern. It's just that the boys are in an intensive care unit and they just wanted me when I leave in three days to be totally good with it and that way it won't be on my mind.

Jeri Ryan's second delivery experience was so quick, husband Christophe Emé almost missed getting the first photo! It only took 11 minutes for Gisele Lynn to make her debut on March 2nd, and Jeri says she's been leading the way ever since.
She's very French. She has really strong lungs, is not afraid to show us what she wants and doesn't like to be rushed during meals. We joke she's going to be either a French chef or an opera singer.
Calling motherhood "magical," the Shark actress admitted that things have changed in the 13 years since she welcomed son Alex -- "I'm a zombie at six hours of sleep!" However, Jeri is receiving a great deal of help from her French chef husband, she revealed.
Christophe is a dream dad. As in love as we were before, this makes it even deeper. [He] cooks delicious meals for me every day. I'm so spoiled. I couldn't be luckier!
The images of Gisele can be seen in the May 26th issue of People.

You won't see Lori Loughlin taking her lifestyle as an actress -- or her role as wife to Mossimo Gianulli, creator of the Mossimo clothing line -- for granted. The 43-year-old mom to daughters Isabella Rose, 9, and Olivia Jade, 8, told ModernMom that she's been fortunate in her ability to successfully balance work and career.
When making a choice about taking on or accepting a role, the first thing I think about is how it’s going to affect my kids. If it takes away from an important time when my kids need me, then I pass on the project and stay home with them. However, I realize not all moms are in a similar position where they can choose to stay home with their kids. I do realize that my husband has a good job and can support our family and that I am very lucky that I have the flexibility to make those choices.
Lori said that a modern mom can be a working parent, or one who has taken a break from work to focus solely on her children. Either way, she added, "a modern mom is ... dedicated to her family and children first and foremost." The family unwinds in Aspen, Colorado, where they like to spend entire days skiing. Lori, who can next be seen in the new Beverly Hills 90210 spinoff being developed by the CW, said it's a special time.
Starting from the minute we wake up, we’re together all day having meals as a family, exercising, watching movies and just spending good quality time.
