I’m happy Christina Aguilera is doing an ad to get people to vote, I just don’t like that she has the baby wrapped in an American flag, just seems wrong to use a flag that way. But she looks very pretty.

I don't think I've ever seen the flag used in a more beautiful way. :)

While I agree that the picture is a beautiful depiction of Mrs. Aguilera and her newborn baby, Sara has a valid point.

According to Section 4(d) of the Federal Flag Code, "The flag should never be used as wearing apparel, bedding, or drapery..."

I don't want to sound stuffy but if an ad campaign is advocating participation in federal politics it should at minimum honor existing federal regulations. (unless of course the picture is protesting a federal regulation, which this ad campaign is clearly not.)

The flag is no longer respected as it once was.

There are rules for folding and hanging flags and it IS considered disrespectful of the flag to use it as "wearing apparel, bedding, or draping . . ."

I just think they could have found another way to get the message across. It just goes to show you what has become of our beloved country. Sooner rather than later, nothing will be treated with respect.

What's next? Taking the Constitution and using it as a diaper?

I don't think there is anything wrong with the picture! It is a beautiful point. I think many people forget that the children of the world are the future!

Well, shouldn't we teach the children to respect our American flag and not use it as a blanket then?

I have to say my first thought was "I can not believe they did this to the flag."

It is disrespectful...And not supposed to be done...period.

It would have been just as beautiful with a flag hanging in the backround.

I'm thrilled to see younger people getting involved in politics and voting, but it shouldn't be at the cost of being disrespectful.

I am surprised to see people taking issue with the flag being used this way. I don't think I've ever seen the symbolism of the flag jump out in a more poignant way. The greatness of our country is our free speech rights and the right to use symbolic speech as well. So although we don't agree with burning flags we all love the right that we are able to do so without our country telling us we can't. I think this is a gorgeous picture and think the message is beautiful as well.

Just because it wasn't meant to be disrespectful doesn't mean it isn't. The Rock the Vote people should have looked into it first.

They could have just as easily got a blanket designed as a flag to use for this. It's not respectful to the flag, no matter what anyone says. A political PSA shouldn't be doing that, nor should anyone else. There are a dozen other ways they could have had that representation without wrapping her baby in it. They took what could have been a great PSA and ruined it.

This is probably one of the key reasons why this country is so divided. Instead of focusing on the message of getting out there and voting, people here are complaining about the use of a flag as a covering. FYI, the Federal Flag Code applies to ALL items that represent the American flag. That includes flag lapel pins, flag vests, flag bedding, etc...

The message of Rock the Vote is a very important one, especially to young voters who take their right, their ability to change the country, and therefore the world, for granted. I, for one, would rather see a flag wrapped around a baby every day of the week if it meant getting people to vote, than to see it flying high on a flag pole at a school, with empty voting booths.
