Update: "Everything is normal" says Angelina Jolie's doctor

Update: During this morning's press conference, Angelina's obstetrician shared that "Brad and Angie want everyone to know that everything is going well," stressing again that the actress is simply being monitored and is not expected to give birth in the immediate future. Revealing that "everything is normal," Dr. Sussman confirmed that she will stay in the hospital until it is time to deliver. However, he was unable to specify when that would be, saying,

This is something you can't program, you never know for sure.

Click below for more info on Angelina's hospital admittance.

Update 10:45 a.m.: Angelina's obstetrician, Dr. Michel Sussman, has invited reporters to a press conference scheduled for 11:30 a.m. EST. According to spokeswoman Nadine Bauer, Angelina is doing, "very well."

Madame Jolie's doctor will be updating her condition at the hospital and giving medical details.

Originally posted July 1st: In anticipation of the arrival of her twins, Angelina Jolie has been admitted under "standard procedure" to Lenval Hospital in Nice, France for what hospital spokesperson Nadine Bauer is calling normal pregnancy monitoring.  Nadine reveals that "there was no medical emergency" and it is very likely the 33-year-old actress -- who arrived at the hospital Monday night at 10 p.m. -- will remain in the hospital until the twins are born.  With about six weeks to go before her due date -- rumored to be in August -- Nadine says there is "no urgency" and that the move to the hospital for further care "is something she had planned with her doctor for the end of the pregnancy for some time."  Although the twins are not expected to make their debut in the immediate future, according to the rep, Angelina is "very happy and in excellent health."  Added Nadine,

She had been advised it would be a good idea to rest during the final days and it has been booked for a while now.

The twins will be Angelina and Brad Pitt's fifth and sixth children.  They will join siblings Maddox Chivan, 6 ½, Pax Thien, 4 ½, Zahara Marley, 3 ½, and Shiloh Nouvel, 2.

I hope everything will be fine and that the hospital won't get mobbed by paparazzi.I hope they'll get as much privacy as possible.

A very good move. Hoping for a joyous and happy birth for this family. :)

i've known moms with twins & none of them have had to go to the hospital so long before their due time. what could be the reason for such early admittance? false due date? diabetes? exhaustion? i've only had singleton experience myself, so i'd be interested to know. and how is the hospital care in france? anyway, i wish for her a healthy, positive birth!

Posted by: I-dra at Jul 1, 2008 2:18:04 PM

Her obgyn is flying in later this week, so I guess she'll have them by the weekend.

No way does she have until August. If they put her on bedrest, she could stay at home. No need to be at the hospital the entire time if everything is "well" as they've said.
They won't arrive today, but probably by the end of the week or next week.

Posted by: Gemma at Jul 1, 2008 2:21:27 PM

So it seems that report from Alain Treisser @ Monaco's Princess Grace Hosp was just more bull.

Every 1 looking for fame.

Posted by: i think at Jul 1, 2008 2:22:40 PM

I hope everything is ok. Since the hospital came right out with a statement saying she was resting comfortably, I think it is going to be a while till she gives birth. If she was about to give birth in the next couple of days, I am not sure the hospital would confirm that she was there. She could have those twins tomorrow or two weeks from now.

I Agree with Gemma she never said her due date was in august that was a joke made by dustin Hoffman that the media just ran with. the truth is no one knows exactly when her due date is. I always say look at Gwen Stefani cause they seemed to have started showing at the same time and i think gwen is due sometime in July. But who knows i hope they have healthy babies.

Posted by: Malya's Mommy at Jul 1, 2008 2:32:33 PM

I-dra, my good friend just delivered twins a week ago and she was in and out of the hospital many times in the month leading up to delivery for monitoring and other tests, so it is not at all unusual that Angie has been admitted now. I hope for a healthy delivery, whenever it is!

Posted by: Heather at Jul 1, 2008 2:50:56 PM

Hopefully the babies won't be born too premature and have to spend much time in the NICU...:(

Even so, it's a good thing Angie's planning to give birth in a fully equipped hospital this time, rather than that rural birthing clinic in Namibia, mainly since it's multiples, which is a high risk pregnancy to begin with.

The place where Angelina gave birth to Shiloh wasn't that bad. Here is the website

"how is the hospital care in france?"

LOL quite good thank you very much.

Posted by: Jade at Jul 1, 2008 3:10:05 PM

I agree with those who keep reminding us that she never said when she was due. The only thing she shared was that she did not want give the date as people would stress about it (Vanity Fair). It seems she was right.

Since this admittance was planned, I don't think she has too much time to go, but I cannot be sure. Just hoping for a healthy delivery leading to healthy babies.

Also, I don't think that doctor in Monaco ever said anything as it would have been very unethical. That was from Star anyway--bad source for truth. Thanks.

Posted by: Toni at Jul 1, 2008 3:11:48 PM

I think the tabolids and rumors were right, and it's been a rough pregnancy for angelina. She hasn't been seen in awhile and now admitted to the hospital. I know with marcia cross and jlo they were both pregnant with twins, and we saw them up until the end, so I think the pregnancy probably has been a little tough. I think no way will these babies be born in august, I think within the next week or two, they will be born. Can't wait to see if it's 2 girls or boy/girl, I don't think it will be 2 boys though. I have a feeling this will be her last pregnancy, but they will adopt within a year again

Posted by: brooke at Jul 1, 2008 3:18:31 PM

This quote says it all "She had been advised it would be a good idea to rest during the final days and it has been booked for a while now." Obviously she is having the twins any day now.

@ I-dra:the hospital care in France is very good and prepared for anything.Like any industrialized country.Really.

Posted by: ma74 at Jul 1, 2008 3:41:06 PM

@I-dra. hospital care in france is really good. i believe they're ranked #5 in the world...

Posted by: Philippa at Jul 1, 2008 3:42:47 PM

"and how is the hospital care in france?"

.....why??

Posted by: sil at Jul 1, 2008 4:18:33 PM

I figured she was going to give birth in July.

Twins usually come early. I'm sure we'll all hear the news soon.

Posted by: Mia at Jul 1, 2008 4:20:56 PM

A big portion of twin (or higher order) pregnancies require bedrest near the end. Nothing really out of the ordinary. With her age (not saying she's old, by any standards but she's not 20 either) and the number of kids she has at home (nanny help or not), her blood pressure is probably a little up there. Mine was and that too is common in twin pregnancies. Rest is good for her right now. She'll need it!

Posted by: TwinMamma at Jul 1, 2008 4:28:52 PM

maybe they will arrive on the fourth of july

Posted by: louise andrews at Jul 1, 2008 4:40:18 PM

hmm many times twins do not make it to full term. So I'd say she could be in there ready to go at any time!! It makes sense that she'd have them in another country just like the rest of her children these babies will have dual citizenship. I am hoping boy/girl - but I don't know those girl/girl rumors still circulate so who knows! It would be nice to see a Brad and Angie baby boy though!

Posted by: J.M. at Jul 1, 2008 4:43:01 PM

I hope she gives birth soon. Bed rest is one thing hospital rest is another. Who would want to be in a hospital for 2-3 weeks just to be monitored?

Posted by: HardCandy at Jul 1, 2008 4:59:02 PM

Well, if Gwen, according to the post above, is due later on this month, and they got pregnant around the same time, then it makes sense that Angelina would deliver this week, as twins usually come early (around 34-36 weeks gestation).

Can't wait to hear the names!

Posted by: NLT at Jul 1, 2008 5:12:09 PM

Didn't Julia Roberts get admitted a month earlier with her twins and she was in the hospital awhile before delivering?

Posted by: laura at Jul 1, 2008 5:17:27 PM

This is not at all unusual for someone carrying twins. I had twins 2 years ago, and can tell you that the last 3 weeks were exhausting and uncomfortable. It was very difficult to sleep, much less move. When those babies are ready (usually around 36 weeks) a c-section may be done--or, if everyone is doing well, they may wait. Until then, her job is to rest (difficult with four small children at home) and let those babies grow. Good luck to them!

Posted by: kelly at Jul 1, 2008 5:27:41 PM

i'm 33 weeks and started to show at the same time as Angelina. I know she is carrying 2, but this is my third child and I'm the same size as her "un-pregnant"...
so my guess is around 33 weeks.

Posted by: kwo at Jul 1, 2008 5:32:50 PM

lenval hospital is the best hospital in the area for newborns, specially for premature babies and it's usual in france to stay at hospital if there's any problem with the pregnancy, even if it's a really small problem. my niece was born in this hospital eleven years ago ! it seems so strange for me that baby 5 and baby 6 will be french AND born just near my parents home !

Posted by: chrizine at Jul 1, 2008 5:33:42 PM

actually I don't think that they will automatically be French citizens. from what I've read, the law was changed and thus they don't allow dual citizenship anymore, just because you were born in France, when your parents are foreigners.

Posted by: Gemma at Jul 1, 2008 5:43:27 PM

I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't plan to go in earlier to avoid a media crush at the hospital. If say she had gone into labor in the middle of the night, it would have been a lot more interesting to the paps as to why she was leaving the house at that time than if she left in the middle of the day, compleatly calm.

Posted by: finnaryn at Jul 1, 2008 5:46:52 PM

I don't blame her for wanting to rest in the hospital. She's full of two babies, probably not sleeping well, maybe a little stressed from press/paps and taking care of 4 small children.

Maybe she just wanted a little R&R before the babies come, and privacy from the press (so she's not in labor and being chased by paps).

Also, didn't she end up having to have an emergency c-section with Shiloh? She may just be playing it safe this time too. Hopefully she isn't having any complications. Can't wait to hear the babies' names!

Posted by: MB at Jul 1, 2008 5:49:52 PM

I've always wondered this.Is she having the babies in france to pay homage to her mother ? Because didn't Angelina say that her mother was always wrongfully addressed as french ? In actuality her father was French-Canadian and she was born and raised in the US.

Posted by: Aya at Jul 1, 2008 8:24:10 PM

It's common to be admitted earlier with twins. My guess is that she is having her contractions monitored and the medication to control those delivered intraveneously. If the due date is Aug 19 at the absolute latest, then she is at least 33 weeks along. Perhaps the hospital rest is to ensure the babies stay put for as long as possible, to give them the best possible chance for good health.

Posted by: Cora at Jul 1, 2008 8:34:30 PM

sil: just wondering. i've never been to a french hospital, so i was simply curious. is that ok with you?

phillipa: #5, that's awesome! puts the U.S. @ #37 to shame.

Posted by: I-dra at Jul 1, 2008 10:58:55 PM

If she was due in August she's only 5 weeks away. For twins that isn't that bad if she delivers now. Many deliver singles at 37 weeks.

Posted by: terri at Jul 1, 2008 11:13:21 PM

"She had been advised it would be a good idea to rest during the final days and it has been booked for a while now."

Reading between the lines, it looks like they've already determined a date for a C-section and I'm betting it will be sometime within the next week.

I never thought she was due in mid-August. She was in Cannes in mid-May and she looked like she was about to pop right there on the red carpet.

Shiloh was born by C-section but I believe it was planned after they checked a couple of weeks before she arrived and found out she was a breech presentation. A C-section is much safer than a breech delivery.

Posted by: Judy at Jul 1, 2008 11:23:59 PM

I had both my girls at 37 weeks (2 yrs apart). I've never heard of someone carrying multiples going to 40wks so if she was due in August then now is about the right time for them to start really monitoring. The longest I've heard of twins staying in utero-- I'm no expert-- is like 38 weeks. I hope everything goes well though... I can't wait to see what they have and the names they pick out. I like what the "rumored" names were (Amelie? and Isla?).

Posted by: Sheila at Jul 1, 2008 11:33:05 PM

Gemma- Her OB may very well just be flying in in order to be able to give Angie more frequent check-ups (this was the case when Shi was born).

Also, the rep said that, "The twins are not expected to make their debut in the immedite future". Therefore, I'm guessing it may be a week or two before they arrive!

I wonder how the kids, especially Shi, are doing with mommy in the hospital? I wonder how Angie and Brad explained it to them?

Posted by: CelebBabyLover at Jul 1, 2008 11:46:24 PM

Oh, and Shiloh's C-section was actually planned, not an emergency. She was breech, so Angie and Brad decided to go ahead have a C-section done.

Posted by: CelebBabyLover at Jul 2, 2008 12:02:01 AM

Ooh, that's pretty exciting. Even People.com has reported Angleina is in the hospital. Time will only tell when the babies arrive and if all is okay with everyone.

Posted by: DLR at Jul 2, 2008 12:03:39 AM

"phillipa: #5, that's awesome! puts the U.S. @ #37 to shame."

Isn't that a sin and a shame? And aren't we up there with third world countries in infant death rates? Kind of sad.

I hope all goes well and she has some healthy babies! Can't wait to hear the names.

Posted by: Bek at Jul 2, 2008 1:16:12 AM

Posted by: NRLT at Jul 2, 2008 1:16:14 AM

All the best Angelina!!!
May your babies be welcome in most healthiest delivery and be as healthy as you and your loved ones want them to be! Have a good rest(as much as it's possible) and enjoy your motherhood like you always do! I wish health and have privacy to all of your family !

Posted by: Alana at Jul 2, 2008 4:37:14 AM

Aya, AJs mother is Quebecois and her father is Czech.

I have no inside info or anything, but maybe they picked France because of the outstanding medical care there? The French health care system is rated best in the world - at least it was a couple of years ago; I assume it hasn't crumbled in that very short period lol.

A Press conference. It seems a bit odd..

Posted by: xena at Jul 2, 2008 10:39:23 AM

The doctor will probably confirm the babies were born, are ok, their weight and names, because what else would he hold a press conference for. I doubt it's just to say, angelina is resting, I bet the babies were born yesterday or this morning.

Posted by: brooke at Jul 2, 2008 10:45:07 AM

I hope everything is fine. maybe the conference is in order to make the press stop harassing the hospital and the family. I don't remenber them having a press conference to announce Shiloh's birth.

Posted by: Jade at Jul 2, 2008 10:51:22 AM

I always thought Angie and Brad wanted privacy, it is kind of weird that she would have her doctor give a press conference.

Posted by: Sasha at Jul 2, 2008 10:52:36 AM

Wonder why Angelina's obstetrician would call a press conference. It's weird...

Posted by: Aelys at Jul 2, 2008 10:58:18 AM

I was watching the Today show today and they had someone from People magazine there and they asked about Angelina and he said well there really isn't any info they could disclose but did exepct some sort of announcement sometime today - he wouldn't say what kind of announcment - just that they expected some more "news".

It leads me to believe she HAS or is giving birth!!

Posted by: J.M. at Jul 2, 2008 10:58:50 AM

A press conference? they really don't learn do they? they had the press congregate after Shiloh was born in Namibia and their doc is holding one before/after the twins are born? Forgive me but when did they ascend to these heights of importance? lol

Posted by: sleekraven at Jul 2, 2008 11:02:45 AM

What is the need for a press conference?

Posted by: rachel at Jul 2, 2008 11:03:58 AM

According to Yahoo France, Brad and Maddox arrived at the clinic an hour ago. The press conference is expected in about 15 minutes (5.30pm local time/11.30am Eeastern)

Posted by: Aelys at Jul 2, 2008 11:12:52 AM

Looks like we are all having the same reaction to the Doctor's announcement of a scheduled press conference. Why would he do that? If the twins have been born, wouldn't you think that Brand and Angelina's reps will announce that information?

I can't imagine why her OB would schedule a PRESS CONFERENCE.

Posted by: chatty cricket at Jul 2, 2008 11:13:21 AM

I agree, a press conference is a bit much. I find it very ostentatious.

Posted by: Sharon at Jul 2, 2008 11:13:59 AM

LOL Sleekraven.

But it's highly important!

I mean, I'm just as excited as any other fan, baby announcements are fun, but a press conference? To update us on her "medical condition" seems a bit much, and to announce the birth of the twins would be OVER THE TOP. She's a movie star, a statement from her rep would do just fine.

Posted by: chatty cricket at Jul 2, 2008 11:17:46 AM

Just jared has pictures of Brad with Shi and Zahara arriving at the hospital. They're so beautiful! They grow so fast.

Posted by: Jade at Jul 2, 2008 11:18:19 AM

In Namibia, press was "angry" at them beacuse they didn't have access to the information as they wanted. They had the press conference for Namibian press to thank the people and country for welcoming them. I don't know what is wrong with that. Magazines are always writing lies abouth them and they never really correct them - why not hear something from the legitimate source? Perhaps press is calling hospital for info all the time, and this was the best way to handle them?

Posted by: ana at Jul 2, 2008 11:24:52 AM

Press conference? I think that must mean either the babies have arrived (which I sincerely hope is the case) or something is wrong. I doubt very much that her Dr would hold a press conference just to confirm that Angelina is resting and doing fine.

Posted by: emma at Jul 2, 2008 11:25:30 AM

It seems a little weird to me to and then i thought about how when this mourning on the news when they showed footage of the hospital there was literally a thousands paps standing at the revolving door of the hospital shoving cameras in anyones face who was either leaving are entering the hospital and although i have no clue why the doctor is holding a press conference i kind of feel like they maybe are using it as a diversion to get Angelina and the kids out of the hospital Safely. Jmo. And you guys joke about how ostentatious it is but what i find more annoying is the fact that legitimate news organizations or going to break our normal progarmming just to annouce that these kids have been born.

Posted by: Ashley at Jul 2, 2008 11:26:49 AM

Anyhow, even on this site people were speculating: why is she in hospital? if she is fine she wouldn't be on bed rest in hospital? Mabey this is just a way to stop endless speculation - some people still think she already gave birth in May, for God sake!lol

Posted by: ana at Jul 2, 2008 11:29:45 AM

I think people are too obsessed with the Jolie-Pitts.

Posted by: Sasha at Jul 2, 2008 11:33:29 AM

I'm sure its necessary or they wouldn't be doing it! The paps are crazy and I'm sure this makes it easier to deal with them. So exciting!

Posted by: brannon at Jul 2, 2008 11:33:38 AM

Hopefully all is fine. I think monitoring twin-pregnancies toward the end is pretty normal. The pres conference thing is a little weird, but she IS Angelina Jolie.
I just like how she's referred to as "Madame"...it's quite fancy ;)

Posted by: coco at Jul 2, 2008 11:37:13 AM

I agree with Sleekraven, this is over the top. I could understand if you're the Pope, but a press conference for a pregnant actress sounds pretentious. A simple statement issued by their representatives would be enough. I don't think they'll ever learn to keep it low key.

Posted by: OK at Jul 2, 2008 11:39:06 AM

geez. hope everything is ok. i don't think they are doing a press conference because they think they're so important. That place is being swamped by press who have no respect for not only A & B's privacy, but also for the other patients' privacy, their ability to come and go, etc. It is a hospital. It needs to run efficiently, without paps breaking down the doors, blocking entrances, etc. So that makes sense to me.

Posted by: carie at Jul 2, 2008 11:39:57 AM

to me it would only be necessary if it was a medical condition to be reporter either for her or the babies. other than this is to fall in the media frenzy.

Posted by: xena at Jul 2, 2008 11:43:04 AM

I don't understand why would you say they will never learn to keep it low key. You didn't see them for two months - did that keep press from writing or speculating? What should they do?

Posted by: ana at Jul 2, 2008 11:53:00 AM

I agree Carie. Some people just love to say anything negative about this family. Anyway, I hope everything is okay with Angie and the twins

Posted by: Renee at Jul 2, 2008 11:54:48 AM

For everyone commenting that the press outside the hospital has been over the top- France actually has very strict laws about privacy (I'm sure that was just one of the MANY reasons they chose to have the babies in Nice), and according to the AP, there were just a few photographers hanging around UNTIL Angelina's OB announced the press conference. After the announcement, the press descended on the hospital and is now crazy, so it seems that the frenzy is in response to the announcement, not the other way around.

I love Ashley's theory that this is a distraction to get Angelina and the babies out of the hospital without anyone noticing! THAT would be very clever, I think.

Posted by: chatty cricket at Jul 2, 2008 11:58:26 AM

press conference.....wow, so now Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's doctor have to do a press conference because she's having twins....this is really TOO MUCH. They sure are good parents and good people that care about the one in need....but i think they should be treat as any other celebrities....they are not THAT important, imo.

Posted by: sil at Jul 2, 2008 12:00:04 PM

Seriously, a press conference?

So in this economy, with people losing jobs and homes, and with cancer still not cured, we're going to have a press conference about Angelina Jolie's pregnancy?

Wow. I was definitely born in the wrong generation because I find this unnecessary and am disturbed by the importance given to this one family. It's not like her twins are the heir to a throne or anything.

Posted by: Charlotte at Jul 2, 2008 12:01:23 PM

ok. i revise my statement then. lol. maybe it is a diversion. isn't it past the time for the press conference? ...but no news yet.

Posted by: carie at Jul 2, 2008 12:02:21 PM

Yahoo France reports the babies aren't born. Angelina's OB called a press conference to say she's doing fine and the birth will be "in a few weeks"

TMZ is reporting the doctor said she hasn't given birth yet...

Posted by: The Nanny at Jul 2, 2008 12:07:10 PM

Posted by: ana at Jul 2, 2008 12:07:22 PM

If they are so unimportant and not worthy of people's attention why can't we wait until the press conference has ended before being negative?

Posted by: Jade at Jul 2, 2008 12:08:01 PM

I don't get the anger about this. No one is forcing you to watch the news conference. If you don't like it, don't watch it.

Posted by: Renee at Jul 2, 2008 12:11:25 PM

imagine if, all over the world, there were press conferences to announce that 'everything was normal'!

Posted by: janice at Jul 2, 2008 12:13:36 PM

So the news conference was basically to end the frenzy of the paps thinking she was due any minute? where are you all watching this?

Posted by: carie at Jul 2, 2008 12:15:29 PM

LOL Janice!

Posted by: chatty cricket at Jul 2, 2008 12:17:01 PM

SO basically it was not a press conference it was him sitting at his desk in his office and he released a statement to the press that she is not do for a couple of weeks. He could have done that without allowing them in his office but i don't see how that is considered a press conf. when i think press conf i think of what the president holds to release info and this was nothing like that it lasted 5 sec at the most. So much for people going crazy about how dare they think they are that important. Chatty criket i saw the footage and that was not a handful of paps. the media the ap was referring to was the paps accross the street that lined up to get pics.

Posted by: Ashley at Jul 2, 2008 12:17:17 PM

Jade,

It is not negativity, its the fact that this whole hoopla is UNECESSARY!!

Posted by: Sasha at Jul 2, 2008 12:19:55 PM

I'm thinking this isn't Angie or Brad's idea. I'm thinking the media and people such as us who view this site demanded answers now. If they had just kept sending out the same messages to the media about everything being fine, people would come up with even more rumours than they are now.At least they have heard it from the doctor. Like it or not, Angie and Brad are very popular around the world. They are basically celebrity royalty just like Posh and Becks are.

Posted by: Renee at Jul 2, 2008 12:20:22 PM

I don't understand the drama. If you don't care, then why post? Why does a news conference bother you so much. Maybe they are giving a conference so that the paparazzi will calm down and not surround the hospital? I'm sure it is disruptive to the other patients and visitors. Also, I'm sure they are tired of the constant calls from the press.

The thing is, they've been saying that 'everything is normal' for a while now, but it didn't stop the false birth reports or the speculation about the 'real' reason Angie needs to be at the hospital. We don't know how much 'madame Nadine' has been asked for updates on Angie condition, so maybe they just wanted to set the record straigh in a big way, once and for all...

Posted by: Danielle at Jul 2, 2008 12:24:26 PM

I can't believe this! Thing is, I don't believe that this situation is Brad and Angie's fault. The media has turned this birth into the circus that it is. Why can't the paps leave them in peace? Imagine having to call a press conference to say that the twins were NOT born, so that they (and the other patients who I'm sure are not amused by this spectacle) can have some peace? Just when I thought the hoopla surrounding Shiloh's birth was as ridiculous as it gets... I don't think I have EVER seen anything like this. I blame the paparazzi FULLY for this. Imagine a private situation like a birth (or non-birth) warranting a press conference to get people off their backs? Why has it come to this?

Posted by: Gianna at Jul 2, 2008 12:28:55 PM

her twin will be french citizen by the age of 18 if they're living in France by that time and if they have been living for a period of 5 year since their 11th birthday.

Well thank god we can all rest again now, knowing that angelina's doctor said all is well lol. I wish them well, babies are so cute and obviously all of us like celebrity babies and news cause we are visiting a site like this. That being said, come on a press conference to basically say nothing, makes them seem so high of themselves and act like they are the only people in the world having babies. If your the pope different story, but just two actors come on now, and celebrities wonder why so much paparazzi and media attention is focused on them, it's little things like this that show celebrities think high of themselves and their lives. .

Posted by: brooke at Jul 2, 2008 12:31:17 PM

Brooke, I have to ask but if you don't like celebrities, why visit this site? I agree with NLT on this.

Posted by: Renee at Jul 2, 2008 12:37:47 PM

Correct me if im wrong but it just seems like the doctor released a statement to the press i don't see any footage it wasn't broadcasted on tv so how does this constitute a press conf Lol but maybe my definiton is diff than everyones here it just seems like he said he would release a statement at a certain time and the media exagerated it into a press conf. I mean the media didn't get to ask questions all he said was what was quoted above so again someone help me understand how they are under fire for their doctor releasing a single statement that she was fine. Lol

Posted by: Malya's Mommy at Jul 2, 2008 12:38:54 PM

This entire story is getting ridiculous. Why not just issue a statement saying, "we're pregnant, this is a precaution, everthing is fine, we ask that you please respect our privacy during this special time in our lives."

Having your OB host a press conference at French hospital to say "all is good" attracts even more attention. Especially since the babies haven't been born.

I am 30 weeks pregnant with twins and going to the OB today. After he examines me I suppose we should start composing his "statement."

Posted by: Gingi at Jul 2, 2008 12:41:04 PM

Some of you Jolie fans are taking some of these comments personal. Why is that? People visit this sit because they want to. If some people including me are baffled by the hoopla of two actors, we can be. The Pitts are okay people, but this whole press conference thing makes them look like they view themselver as above others IMO!!

Posted by: Sasha at Jul 2, 2008 12:42:29 PM

If it bothers you so much, then don't watch it! Don't click on this link and get updates! My goodness! You would think that Brad & Angie forced you to read about them.

Maybe this was the doctor's idea. Have you thought of that? Especially after Entertainment Tonight told the world the babies were born last month and never retracted their story.

Posted by: NLT at Jul 2, 2008 12:42:33 PM

They are not the first babies to be born and will not be the last.

Public interest (media, blogs etc.) fuels the attention on this couple.

The many interviews given re their 'courtship', relationship, kids etc. makes people hungry for more.

Such is life. They knew what they were getting into when they hooked up!!

Posted by: Britmama at Jul 2, 2008 12:44:29 PM

Um renee did you read my post, one of the first things I wrote is obviously we all love celebrities and babies because we are visiting a site like this lol.I like celebrities and even like brad and angelina as actors. That being said a press confernce to say all is well is dumb and if it was any other celebrity doing it, most would say oh god they are not the first people in the world to be expecting twins. So everybody is entitled to their opinion, but I don't think a doctor saying everything is normal really needed a confernce for 2 actors, but that's just my opnion and some here feel the same and others don't, not everybody has to agree on everything.

Posted by: brooke at Jul 2, 2008 12:44:34 PM

A person posted this on Just Jared and it makes a lot of sense...
"the French have been doing this with celebs on a regular basis since princess Diana's death and the pictures of her unconscious taken when she was severely wounded.

They tend to protect celebs when they are vulnerable by doing those press conferences to give restricted informations to the paps so that they won't cross the line of coming in, checking confidential medical reports or worse taking pictures of a wounded or unconscious person like they did with Diana"

Posted by: ana at Jul 2, 2008 12:45:26 PM

I think this is also a bit much, but I don't blame Brad and Angelina at all. They have had to suffer with so much nonesense--they gave birth already, hiding babies, she is faking, the babies are sick and on and on. They needed to be in a hospital because of the twin births. I am also sure that the hospital has been bombarded with calls for informaiton, so they had to do something. Now we will be getting photos of Brad coming and going. When her going into the hospital is covered on the early morning national news shows--Today and Early Morning and is a crawl on CNN and MSNBC, then something had to be said.

I really feel for them actually and the other poor folks in that hospital who did not ask for this.

Posted by: Terry at Jul 2, 2008 12:48:19 PM

Except what you guys are missing is thats exactly what they did they gave the doctor a statement to release instead of having it come from their publicist because it would seem more reliable coming straight from the doc. i fail to realize how having the statement come from the hospital and not their camp makes this a press conf. I think the media and some of you are overreacting. i mean really someone point out to me how this counts as a press conf. Lol.

Posted by: Newbienew at Jul 2, 2008 12:49:10 PM

You know why they didn't issue statement themselves or via representative Gingi?
Press would not belive them. Their rep issued a statement that ET story aboth birth was not true and what happened - they never retracted the story. There is still lots of horible rumors around internet about that. I guess no one is upset about that, but a statement from her doctor is so contraversial.

Posted by: ana at Jul 2, 2008 12:51:47 PM

I'm not saying that Brooke. You can post whatever you want but I can also disagree with you. I just think if any other celebrity couple did the same thing, it wouldn't be a big deal. Like I said earlier, some people just look for anything negative to say about this family. It's rare I see a post about this family and there isn't a negative comment.

Posted by: Renee at Jul 2, 2008 12:58:32 PM

It's funny how judgmental everyone gets here, without even knowing the story. Everything we get from the media is out of context. Why jump all over Angelina and Brad? How do you know that they wrote the statement, etc.? Accusing them and being angry that they think they are so important is so silly. You have no idea the whole story behind any of this. Maybe they gave the doctor permission to say something because the hospital was seeking calm and peace for them and ALL their other patients? Maybe it's a diversion? Point is...you have no idea. You don't know the answers. Anywhere they go will be press. They don't have to court it. It shows up and creates a scene. I personally agree with Gianna on this one, but I don't know either the whole story.

Posted by: carie at Jul 2, 2008 1:02:56 PM

I think to the average person a "press conference" about a hospital stay during a pregnancy is over the top but they are CELEBRITIES. I also applaud them for updating the public because they know that many people (for WHATEVER reason) are curious about this pregnancy. Let's be honest there were probably reporters somewhere drooling over the news she was in the hospital... They have gone through this before with Shiloh so they probably think this is the best way to handle it.

On another note I don't think this was an emergency admittance because a significant amount of time passed before brad came and he has since brought Zahara and Shiloh to visit.

Posted by: kiley at Jul 2, 2008 1:08:51 PM

I gave birth to my son in Paris, France and I have to say the service they provided looking after me during my 42 hour labour and the aftercare with my son, was absolutely brilliant. I am so grateful to them, for they brought my son into the world safely and with so much love. I am so glad that I had Pierre in France, because they really do take care of you. In England, I had a friend who was gave birth unattended on a hospital bed, in an empty ward! That's the NHS system for you! Over here, it's so much better!

Posted by: babyboopie at Jul 2, 2008 1:09:22 PM

LOL Gingi, you totally need a p.r. rep and a press conference too :) I love it!!

Posted by: (another) Sasha at Jul 2, 2008 1:35:03 PM

I'm sorry, but I find the coverage of this story absurd. I like celebrity news, it's light and fluffy, but this is really too much. I'm surprised that that there was a news conference--don't we usually hear the complaints of invasion of privacy from most celebrities? Well, calling a press conference to update the world on the status of your pregnancy is going to only increase the circus that already surrounds this family. I really like this site and I don't mean to rain on the parade that is Brad and Angelina, but this is really getting ridiculous.

Posted by: natalie at Jul 2, 2008 2:05:33 PM

Angelina Jolie is psychic. She called it. In her Vanity Fair interview, she said that she wouldn't disclose her due date because people would start to go all loopy and whatnot. She got it spot on. I saw the pictures just after news broke that Angelina was in the hospital so nobody can tell me that there aren't hundreds of journalists and photographers camped outside that hospital. There are.

I love how so many people are calling it a press conference. If that was a press conference, I'm currently sitting in a 40 bedroomed mansion and I have 12 Ferarri's parked outside next to the helicopter pad.

Please.

Their doctor released a statement to the press letting them know everything was okay. As usual with the Jolie-Pitts, the press and the paparazzi are going completely overboard. Camped outside the hospital and harassing everyone and anyone for some information. I bet if Angelina and Brad had let that go on without saying a word, we'd be blaming them for that as well.

Sites like the one we're all commenting on right now are part of the problem faced by Brad and Angelina. No privacy, no peace, having to constantly update the public and the press just so that people don't start losing their minds. As we are all part of the problem, I don't think any of us has the right to criticise Brad and Angelina for trying to control the circus, do you?

Posted by: Amanda at Jul 2, 2008 2:28:09 PM

I've said it before...If you don't want the attention, don't become an actor. You have to know going into show business that if you make it big, people are going to follow you with cameras.

A press conference is a little over the top, I have to agree.

I love this family as much as the next person, but asking for privacy when you're the hottest couple in the US is like asking for a hamburger without meat. It doesn't happen.

We, as a society, made these two what they are. We paid to see their movies, we buy magazines with their pictures. Some may even donate to their charities. I'm not saying they owe anyone anything, but asking for privacy is like a slap in the face to me.

Posted by: Lisa Johnson at Jul 2, 2008 2:55:09 PM

I was just watching a show on E! and there was breaking news "Angelina has NOT given birth" They interrupted the program to say this and went on for 2 minuets talking about how she is still pregnant. All I could say is WOW. How is that breaking news?

This thing is so out of hand it is almost laughable. Where would the world be without the Brangelina bunch?

Posted by: HardCandy at Jul 2, 2008 3:04:01 PM

This is a blog and it's not restricted to people who ONLY like the ones they're talking about. We're all free to express our opinion, and if we don't like some things, i think we can say it.

I for once agree that holding a press conference is doing nothing but drawing more attention to them. And those who say Angelina or Brad are not behind this, gimme a break. They are the ones who make the call of every move, especially what info they send outside.

To hold a press conference to simply say that she's ok and that the babies aren't born yet is ridiculous. They could wait for the babies to be born and THEN give the whole information. That would be news.

Posted by: Bugs at Jul 2, 2008 3:09:24 PM

I wonder why they had a press conference since basically the press release before that already said the same thing?

Posted by: Julie at Jul 2, 2008 3:11:17 PM

Because people didn't believe the press conference, since ET didn't retract their statement about her giving birth last month. Some even said that the pics of her last week weren't really her, or that it was a fake belly that she was wearing 'cause the babies were already born.

All those press releases didn't stop the rumors. Hopefully, the doctor's statements will.

Give them a break. They are d@mned if they do, and d@mned if they don't.

Oh, and, they do NOT owe us anything. When we spend out money on them, it doesn't give us the right to know everything about them.

Posted by: NLT at Jul 2, 2008 3:30:30 PM

I definitely don't think they owe us anything either and it would be nice if the press didn't cover them so much.....I honestly get tired of hearing about them all the time...but then again I'm not that much of a fan of theirs anyway

Posted by: Julie at Jul 2, 2008 3:53:08 PM

I'm amazed at how many people are coming down on Brad/Angelina, the doctor and the hospital for the press conference. They are some of the top celebs in the world and the 1st pap that gets a info or a photo relating to the pregnancy is going to have a huge payday - especially if the photo includes Angelina (pregnant or not at this time) or the babies.

B&A have always said they are concerned for their children's privacy and they don't seem to do anything that contradicts that claim. The press conference was likely to keep everyone from clamoring for exclusive info for their family's safety and privacy and not due to their own egos or need for attention.

If you don't agree that a press conference was called and that information was released to the public, then why do you come on this site and other celebrity sites? We the public have created the frenzy for information and photos...it's kinda like "the pot calling the kettle black."

Posted by: SBR at Jul 2, 2008 3:59:02 PM

Right so famous people can never ask for some privacy? We're entitled to know every little detail about their lives?

What a sad way of looking at things.

Posted by: Amanda at Jul 2, 2008 4:06:53 PM

I remember when J-Lo and P-Diddy held a press conerence to say "We havent broken up and please respect our privacy" ummmm YOU DONT HAVE A PRESS CONFERANCE IF YOU WANT PRIVACY! Come on people open your eyes, if you think Angelina and Brad arent behind it youre wrong..... Just like any other celeb they ARE behind what is put out to the public by their people.

Also, we are entitle to think that this is absurd, dont forget alot of you pro Brangelina have no problem ripping on other celebs, so why are they different? Beacause they give to charity and do good for the world? What makes you think that other celebs dont do it too? They might just keep it much more low key and dont publicize all that they do.

I think this who Brangelina thing is crazy, I remember a while ago when the show I was watching was interrupted for BREAKING NEWS (aka Britney's meltdown)...now this!

Celeb news is nothing but fluffy fun (THIS IS WHY WE COME TO THE SITE!!! DOES THAT ANSWER YOUR QUESTION?), but this has gotten out of hand.
I really wish some of you people would realize that if this was Britney Spears holding a press conference before giving birth, you would be ripping her to shreads. Hypocrisy is not nice people

Posted by: Please stay in France at Jul 2, 2008 4:31:43 PM

I agree with the damned if they do, damned if they don't. But I disagree that they don't deserve privacy. Why not? They have been out of the public eye for weeks, so they don't court the press when they are not working. If they wanted to be seen, you would have bunches of cute walking and holding hands pictures in France, but you have not seen them (exept Brad a couple of times) at all, so they have tried to stay out of the public eye.

They still got grief when their reps said she had not given birth. Silly stories-- having to show herself, about sick babies, false stomachs and the like. So press releases don't work for them.

Maybe someone who does not work for them will be believed, but I can gurantee that the tabloids will still spin this in a negative way. Damned if they do and damned if they don't. Thanks.

Posted by: Mary at Jul 2, 2008 4:36:06 PM

Why a press conference by her OB/GYN?? Because every news outlet in the world reported on Angelina being checked into the hospital as their top entertainment story. There are over a 1,000 articles on the web about it. Did a simple news release from a hospital spokesperson stop the speculation as to whether she actually gave birth or not, or whether she had suffered some sort of complication? NO! So now everybody can hear it directly from her doctor and stop the guessing. And once the media found out where she was going to give birth, don't think for a minute that they weren't going to descend on them in Nice. Asking for their privacy during this special time is the most logical thing for her doctor to ask.

I wish Angelina the very best.

Posted by: Faye at Jul 2, 2008 4:50:48 PM

Full term for twins is considered to be 37 weeks. For each order of multiples, you drop 3 weeks from the full-term gestation period of a singleton. So singleton = 40 weeks, twins = 37 weeks, triplets = 34 weeks and so on. It is extremely common for twins to be early, but it should be remembered that they should be measured against a 37 week full term line rather than 40 weeks. A side note - I had twins 2 years ago, and at 39 weeks gestation, was considered to be 2 weeks overdue. The other thing with twins is that no matter your age, social status and so on, that it is a high risk pregnancy, and yes, there are many things that can go wrong in the last few weeks. ALL twin pregnancies in 1st world countries are monitored closely throughout.

I am also a mother of 6, my twins were the last 2. I am fit and active, but by the end of my pregnancy, walking for any length of time was difficult and I got tired extremely easily. The prospect of a couple of weeks resting and being looked after would have sounded amazing! Even though Brad and Angelina have help at home, they both seem very hands on with their children, and it is tiring.

I love seeing reports about this marvellous family, and wish them all the best with their life changing experience of twins!!!

for all the rumors and crasy stuff about the date of birth : in france the law said that you have just three days after the birth of a child to go to the city hall and register him (and the "book of registration" is public, i'm certain that a lot of french reporters are staying in front of the nice city hall just for that).
so it is certain that angelina jolie babies aren't born yet !

I really can't believe anyone would have a problem with the hospital having this press conference. They are obviously being bombarded with calls and press. Having a press conference with all the press at once hopefully will relieve some of the intense scrutiny. I am glad they got the truth out there. I couldnt believe some of the outlandish things being written about Angie and the twins. This way we know that she has not given birth, it wont be for a while, nothing is wrong. It is normal for women to need bed rest while carrying multiples, and Im glad she is able to do so in a hospital since im sure she will be tempted to try to hold one of her little kids, or do too much. Very normal. Hope everything goes well.

some people just want a reason to complain, it is sad. Angie and Brad are very famous the world over, people are interested in them, but the press takes it too far. Im glad they are trying to take control by having this press conference. It was the best thing to do.

Posted by: liza at Jul 2, 2008 5:46:42 PM

Having your OB host a press conference at French hospital to say "all is good" attracts even more attention. Especially since the babies haven't been born.
--------
No it doesnt. Not when rumors were already being circulated they were born, that there was something "wrong", questions about why she was in the hospital..etc. Why do some people fail to realize the fame associated with Angelina? The poor hospital is most likely being deluged with calls and I for one have been disgusted by the rumors. So now, the truth is out, they had a press conference so all press got a chance to ask their questions, and hopefully, the press will back off, at least a little.

"B&A have always said they are concerned for their children's privacy and they don't seem to do anything that contradicts that claim."

If they were really concerned about the kids privacy, they wouldn't sell exclusives of their kids' first pictures to the highest bid. EVEN if it's for charity. They say it's for charity, but at the end, what they do is expose their child to the media, and with that they OPEN THEIR "PRIVATE" DOORS to the media.

They can't ask paparazzi not to take pics of their kids when they themselves already sell pics of them.

The media won't leave them alone anyways, it doesn't make them go away. I heard Brad saying he's so concerned for his kids privacy on Larry King and i said BS. They have enough to donate to charity, there's no need to go into this first-pic crazy marketing.

For the record, i have no problem with celebrities sharing pics of their kids, (hence i like this site) but i do have a problem with this double personality some celebs have, by saying they want their kids privacy and at the same time they expose them to the entire world's media.

Do they have the right for privacy? Of course they do. But if they expose them, they better deal with the consequences. Once you open the door, it's really hard to close it.

Posted by: Bugs at Jul 2, 2008 6:05:03 PM

I'm glad Angelina is able to spend the remainder of her pregnancy in the hospital. It's probably partly to help keep her off her feet. She seems like a very hands-on mom and probably has a hard time staying off her feet when she's at home, no matter how much help she has.

Who cares if they called a press conference? If you didn't want to know the news, you wouldn't be here, either. Obviously, by the amount of attention this news is receiving, the press conference (even if was more of a press release) seems to be entirely warranted. Those of you who think this is ridiculous, ought not to be adding to the ridiculousness.

Posted by: Carrie Jo at Jul 2, 2008 6:08:04 PM

Thank you Amanda for your intelligent and logical post. It was hardly a "press conference", just letting the rabid press know what was going on so they might leave Angie and the other patients alone and STOP WITH THE LIES!.

You are spot on! If Angie and Brad hadnt agreed with the hospital to release this info, they would(ok, Angie)be blamed for all the paps and stalking press. Look what happened when ET claimed she gave birth in May..people and even some press were saying Angie should "show" herself to prove she was still pregnant! What nerve of people. I just read where Roger Friedman of fox news claims that Angie "lied" about her due date being august 19th, since she is in the hospital now. First, she never gave a due date, that was Hoffman, and geez louise Roger, babies due come early..especially twins...and most importantly..she hasnt given birth yet. Poor Angie knew this would happen, I really like Dustin Hoffman, but Im annoyed at him telling that reporter Angie's due date..IF he wasn't joking that is.

The press is going nuts over a celebrity birth..Angie and her family are being stalked. Please do not blame the one being stalked.

Thanks again Amanda for your sensible post.

Hoping for a safe birth and healthy babies for the JP's.

Since when are Brad and Angelina responsible for how, when and why the general media report their news?

All they are trying to do is tame this ridiculous circus around them which the media constantly creates and what we, as consumers of all things celebrity do nothing but exacerbate.

Also, celeb lives are not 'fluffy fun'. These are real people with real lives and they deserve as much respect, peace and quiet to bring their children into the world as me and you.

I hope now everyone backs off and gives them some room to breathe.

Thanks Faye, you are right, their managers denied Angelina had given birth in May but many didn't believe them!!! What the hospital did was very professional and very logical.

If Britney spears (or any celeb)was in the hospital, trying to rest, awaiting the birth of twins..and if the press was going crazy, calling the hospital, printing lies about the situation, trying to sneak pics, invading the privacy of her and other patients.. you know what? I would not have a problem with the hospital spokesman coming out with a statement to appease the press and get the truth out.

Only reason some people might be upset(that I can think of) about this is.

1)They don't want to accept the huge following and fame of Brad and Angelina. They don't like them, so can't imagine that many many do.

2)They don't like that the truth has been put out there because they can't spread lies about Angie's babies being born too soon, or being sick ..or Angie having health problems or whatever lie they can come up with.(this won't stop all the lies but hopefully this release will stop most of them)

The way I see it is, who cares if it was Brad and Angie that arranged the press conference? She is pregnant with twins, she is in the hospital and probably NOT going to be having her babies soon. Maybe they were just trying to get the paps to settle down alittle. Basically telling them that nothing is happening now, go home! I know that it draws more attention but I'm sure they are not trying to make things more difficult for other patients. It's not like the paps can go into the hospital and get pictures so why be there now?? We all want to see these babies, but there is a time and a place and it isn't right now. Even celebs deserve privacy, could you imagine having paps outside your hospital waiting to get a picture of you RIGHT after delivery??? I sure wouldn't. I don't see anything wrong with the press conference, I don't see how it is really any different than a statement except for the fact that it came right from the doctors mouth and didn't get altered by celebrity magazines. Dr. Michel Sussmann said, “She will give birth in the next two weeks. I can’t really say more than that. It really isn’t an emergency. She was booked in well in advance. We are not talking about premature birth.

“We have reserved four rooms for her and her husband and also for her protection teams. We believe the security concerns they have raised are legitimate. She is a pregnant woman.

“She is perfectly entitled to protect her privacy. We should let her breath. She will stay in the hospital as long as it takes for her to give birth to her babies and have sufficient rest and then she will be allowed to go home.

“This clinic was probably chosen because it has a particularly high standard where pediatrics are concerned, and a high level of comfort, which you don’t always find. Angelina Jolie is very much a patient like any other. I have very high respect for both her and her husband.”

If your the pope different story, but just two actors come on now, and celebrities wonder why so much paparazzi and media attention is focused on them, it's little things like this that show celebrities think high of themselves and their lives. .
brooke
==================

It is BECAUSE Brad and Angelina are so hounded that this statement was necessary. Some are acting like they are Heidi and Spencer, with Heidi's doctor reassuring us that her breast implant surgery went well.

Brad and Angelina are huge celebs all over
the world. some don't want to acknowledge this fact, but that doesnt make it less true, they are famous and loved the world over by millions. The rumors and press attention over this birth has gotten out of control.

A statement would not have sufficed. When a statement was put out in may from their managers that Angie had NOT given birth, many refused to believe it. Even ET wouldnt admit their mistake. The ugly rumors were disgusting.

Now we have a well respected source..Her own doctor telling us the facts...so when the tabs come out next week with lies about Angie's health..or the babies health..or whatever..and they will, we have have the doctor's own words to refute the lies.

Posted by: candace at Jul 2, 2008 10:08:59 PM

Because people didn't believe the press conference, since ET didn't retract their statement about her giving birth last month. Some even said that the pics of her last week weren't really her, or that it was a fake belly that she was wearing 'cause the babies were already born.

All those press releases didn't stop the rumors. Hopefully, the doctor's statements will.

---------

I agree. I don't blame them at all. If you don't like the words press conference, say the doctor talked to the press. Will that make everyone less cranky?

If I was under the scrutiny of this family, I would want the truth told so the press would go away. I cant imagine being in this circus.

And just releasing a statement has proven not to work for this family...people just simply don't believe them,....sadly we live in a tabloid world. Having the doctor make a statement hopefully will help.

I don't blame Angelina for not having her babies in LA. After the fiasco with private records being tampered with (Britney Spears, Maria Shriver) I'm sure she is assured great care and none of the craziness going on with certain employees lately in the LA hospitals known to be the "very best".

Posted by: Donna at Jul 2, 2008 11:20:24 PM

Asking for privacy is a slap in the face to you? Wow. Really.

It was not that big of a deal. People talk about and follow these two avidly. They're on every magazine cover, we refer to them as Brangelina, we talk about them as if we know them, we come here and comment on all their decisions. Maybe we're the ones that are the top?

Posted by: terri at Jul 2, 2008 11:25:56 PM

Bugs- If, for example, Angie and Brad were to take the twins out without first releasing photos to magazines, it would literally not be safe for the twins, for the other kids, or even for Angie and Brad. The paps would go absolutly nuts trying to get that "first shot" of the babies. I mean, if you watch one of the many vidoes of them out and about, it's pretty clear that things are crazy for them everytime they go out (for example, in a video of them shopping with Maddox and Shiloh in France, people are going nuts! They are literally shrieking with delight over Shiloh, and Brad actually had to come to the poor toddler's rescue and pick her up!).

If they took out the twins without first releasing photos of them, that craziness would no doubt be at least ten times worse (especially considering the twins will be their 2nd and 3rd biological children). And before you say that celebs like Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck, Gwyneth Paltrow, etc. didn't do photoshoots with their babies and the paps didn't go crazy: Those celebs aren't nearly as famous as Angie and Brad, and the media interest in them isn't the same as it is for Angie and Brad.

If you're so sick of the all-important Jolie-Pitts, please feel free to spare yourselves the horrors of reading threads about them.

Usually, this blog is great for not having to put up w/ negative comments. I guess the dislike is so strong it has even infected this blog. By the way, free speech goes both ways, free speech means people who disagree w/ you have the right to voice it no matter which side your on. If you dislike this couple so much, Don't read about them. It is real simple. And it's good for your health. But expect those that like them to defend them. That's real simple too. Here in LA even if a minor celebrity is in the hospital there is a press conference. If not the news media would be calling the hospital and bothering all the other patients and staff for news. With B & A that is magnified 100 x. Yes, they want attention for their careers but not their children. The pictures were so the paps would not chase them w/ the children. Being an actor does not mean you give up your entire right to privacy.
Some people would just rather dislike people rather than be kind.

NRLT and Sigh, Angelina said that it is a common mistake. Her mother was born and raised in Chicago. It is her mother's father (Angelina's grandfather, not her father, or mother)that was French-Canadian.I was watching that report on CNN and they said that France has the best health-care in the world, but they have very very high taxes.

Posted by: Aya at Jul 3, 2008 12:43:12 AM

Bugs, so you would rather that some money hungry paparazzi who has hired a helicopter to circle overhead, like some circling vulture, to earn millions of dollars? Do you like seeing those pictures? I don't want to see those pictures. Those pictures makes me sick.

On the other hand, seeing a picture that was taken calmly, quietly, by a gentle photographer with Brad and Angelina's permission, reduces the bounty on their child's head. Like you said, we LIKE seeing pictures of celebrity children, and it's people like us who guarantee that SOMEONE is going to take that picture. The only question is whether that's a paparazzi or not. I for one applaud Brad and Angelina's courage to take a stand on this and do what's morally best for their children.

To all the lovely posters who defended the Jolie-Pitts, and understood why the press release/press conference was necessary, we have to try to understand some of these posters go from blog to blog and get their "talking points" as such, so that they can go on the attack. You would have to be utterly insesitive not to understand why the doctor took the initiative to try to set the record straight, because God knows eveything the JPs tried to do, was not helping. To turn this into an attack against them just shows how bias people can be.

Lets see what other lies they can manufacture now.

Posted by: dianad1968 at Jul 3, 2008 1:22:10 AM

ummm, you are all reading a website about celebrity babies... obviously the news about two of the most beautiful people in hollywoods twins that are due soon is quite a big thing. I can't believe you have a problem with a press conference for the two most hounded celebrities .

Posted by: jazzy at Jul 3, 2008 1:32:16 AM

Just wanted to say one more thing. It bothers me that some people seem to blame Brad and Angelina for the circus that surrounds them. As though it were somehow something they could orchestrate or control.

All they can do is react. Everything people are complaining about (the so-called press conference, the baby pictures) has been their reaction to the circus, their attempt to lessen the attention, reduce the scrutiny, and garner some semblance of control over their lives and what's said about them.

It's sort of ironic that when they attempt to become more normal (by letting people know, through their doctor, that absolutely nothing is happening) people immediately start accusing them of somehow trying to get more attention. Really, does anyone seriously believe they want more scrutiny right now?

In my humble opinion we should be feeling very sorry for these people trying to carve a special and personal time for themselves amidst such craziness, rather than blaming and critizing them.

Posted by: Cora at Jul 3, 2008 1:35:54 AM

Yknow, if CBB felt some of the comments people are complaining about were THAT bad they would not have posted them.

I can see how the Dr. was making a small statement to keep the press at bay, but maybe it's time for some of these die-hard fans to back off. The Jolie-Pitt die hard fans are having a bigger hissy fit toward the disagreeing commenters. Why can't anyone ever disagree with a Jolie-PItt article. Nobody is wishing them harm or worse, they are just commenting on what they read.

Maybe CBB should crack down on some of the self proclaimed moderation police, let us have a debate without people thinking it's a personal hit and crying about it.

I've never heard of someone carrying multiples going to 40wks so if she was due in August then now is about the right time for them to start really monitoring. The longest I've heard of twins staying in utero-- I'm no expert-- is like 38 weeks.

I have to friends who carried twins full term. One was even a week past their due date. You have a higher likelihood of carrying full term if the twins were conceived naturally, you are in your 20's, and you gain a LOT of weight, around 60 lbs.

I'm not saying it works that way for everyone, but statistically speaking. Both of my friends met this criteria.

Posted by: Kelly at Jul 3, 2008 12:07:17 PM

Well, I have to disagree that people are just "commenting"..some are but others seem to have this strange sense of anger about almost anything the JP's do that they disagree with.

Im not a fan of Tom Cruise, but I would never write that he should "stay in France" or whatever, just because I disagreed with him.

Some posters seem to have this personal hatred that I cant fathom, why would the jp's asking for some privacy be "a slap in the face" to a poster on here?

Does that make sense? Can you sense the anger? That is a bit sick and sad and THAT is what many posters object to.

Posted by: to enough already at Jul 3, 2008 1:11:08 PM

I had a friend that went right up to 40 weeks with her twin fraternal girls and had a vaginal delivery. She was HUGE but no problems with swelling, high-blood pressure, diabetes, etc. nothing. Her biggest problem was getting from a sitting to standing position without the help of another adult. LOL! She birthed those babies like a true champ. The doctor did put her on very strict bed-rest the last 5 weeks of pregnancy thinking she would deliver at 37 to 38 weeks. But she didn't have one contraction until 1 day after her 40th week. Go figure. She thinks because she stayed well hydrated, drinking water by the gallons and ate really really healthy and cut out a lot carbs and sugars from her diet was the reason she carried them to term or she could have just gotten lucky as she will tell you, lol.

Good luck to AJ and BP. This is quite exciting.

Posted by: Sheba at Jul 3, 2008 1:42:30 PM

Hope everything goes well for Angelina and her babies.

I had always heard that full term for twins was 37 weeks.

Posted by: harper at Jul 3, 2008 1:52:11 PM

I could give a rat's hiney about a press conference or whether Brangelina ordered it or not. The main priority here is the BABIES! I give them credit for wanting the best care for their twins.

All the crap aside, I do understand why people would think that a press conference is a bit over the top.

I am also shocked that 80% of the people defending the Jolie-Pitts on here and who are very upset that people are "spreading lies and whatnot" about Angelina and the babies are the same people who were right in the mix when the Cruises were being raked over the coals and lies told tenfold about Suri....

You really can't spout off to say "back off" one celeb when you participate in knocking another..IMO.

I hope the babies are born healthy and with no complications and the family can be at peace with them.

Posted by: TracyG at Jul 3, 2008 1:56:00 PM

actually I don't think that they will automatically be French citizens. from what I've read, the law was changed and thus they don't allow dual citizenship anymore, just because you were born in France, when your parents are foreigners

Yes, the babies will be born in France, but they will be american. Angelina and Brad aren't french. Only the french-president could be to give the french nationality to the twins.

Sorry for my english, I'm French !!(lol)

Posted by: Ilona at Jul 3, 2008 3:44:41 PM

Enough already, I think the reason why the posters defending the JPs get upset, is because it seem that there is one set of standards for the JPs, and one for everyone else. At least i know that is what riles me. Everything they do or say is nit-picked and analysed to death. No other celebrity is treated this way, and its unfair. Everyone knows what happened after ET erroneously reported that Angie had given birth, and although their reps sent out statements denying the claims, they were not believed, and all kinds of crazy speculations ensued. And now some people have the gall to criticize them because they had their doctor state publicily that she and the babies are fine, and she has not yet given birth?

As one poster said earlier, the ones who are annoyed about the doctor's PC probably took some perverse pleasure from the wild speculations and lies that were going around, and now that that has been taken away, they have nothing. For a woman who has never been known to say a bad word about anyone, she sure gets raked over the coals. I just pray that she has a safe and healthy delivery, and that Brad and her could welcome their new bundles of joy in peace. They deserve nothing less.

Posted by: dianad1968 at Jul 4, 2008 2:48:54 AM

dianad1968 what she said :)
totally agree with you. The only time the comments get so long are when it is the Jolie-Pitt family. By giving them so much attention detractors are increasing their notoriety and making them more famous. I mean whoever heard of announcing a birth and not retracting it when proved to be wrong, ET Mary Hart. So yeah their fans were probably happy to have the press conference, to everyone else ignore them, seriously it can be done! I like this family so I will be waiting for news about them, best wishes to Angelina and Brad safe delivery for her and babies:)

Posted by: Loren at Jul 4, 2008 11:58:22 AM

I'm posting a little late caus I just discovered the web site....

Just to clarify (cause I am a doc and a mum) twins CAN go full term. They are usually just induced early by the medics to limit the complications. Women are advised, though to get plenty of bed rest, especially if they have other children.

A hospital stay leading up to the birth is not uncommon...but it is indicative that there is something up. Could be high blood pressure. Most likely, cause previous birth was a cesar, the docs are worried about her scar. It will be heavily monitored as there is a small risk it could tear with contractions. I doubt she is being advised to give birth naturally though unless she is pushing for it. Most docs won't deliver twins naturally these days...much less if there is the extra risk of previous cut.

So even if her 40 weeks are mid Aug, she will prob be pushed to induce or be cut before that time.
