Ethan Hawke and Ryan Shawhughes Beat the Heat

Tags: Moms-to-be

Ethan Hawke and new wife Ryan Shawhughes strolled through New York City's West Village on Thursday while out with their dog. The couple married in mid-June and have announced they are expecting a girl. They confirmed their pregnancy in January.

Love their puppy dog!

Ryan is really pretty. I love her sun glasses as well!

Posted by: Elyse at Jul 18, 2008 3:18:11 PM

I never see Ryan smile. I never see any love between these two.

I think Ethan did the right thing by his unborn child by marrying her, but it doesn't seem like there is much love between these two. Now granted, they are always being photographed by the paparazzi and that could have a lot to do with it, but something tells me this union is not going to last and that is a shame for the child.

OMG! did everyone forget he totally cheated on Uma Thurman with her? That was the nanny!!!!

Posted by: megan at Jul 18, 2008 4:05:49 PM

I disagree. It may not be a dream story for a lot of people, but I think if they didnt like each other they would be apart long time ago.

"I think Ethan did the right thing by his unborn child by marrying her, but it doesn't seem like there is much love between these two."

If you truly feel this way, why would you think he made the right decision by marrying her?!?

Posted by: Vanessa at Jul 18, 2008 4:24:23 PM

Chrystie, I disagree with the statement that he did the right thing for his unborn child by marrying her. What does that have to do with anything? No one should just get marry because they are expecting a child.People can be great parents and never get married. Marriage isn't for everyone and that should be respected. Anyhow, I do wonder how his older children are handling the arrival of a new sibling...or maybe two if the rumours about Uma expecting are true

Posted by: Renee at Jul 18, 2008 4:28:24 PM

Can we please get over the "OMG! SHe was the nanny!!" thing. So yes, she was the nanny, yes there were rumours he cheated on Uma, but they divorced a long time ago. Se found love, he is still with Ryan, so let them be happy and wish them luck.

Posted by: lilith at Jul 18, 2008 4:44:34 PM

It's just as everyone always says about those who write comments disagreeing with celebrities..."just skip them and move on if you don't agree with them."

I think the same respect should apply to other commenter's. If you don't agree, just continue on down to the next comment.

Everyone needs to get off of everyone else's backs! Gees!!!

Posted by: Shannon at Jul 18, 2008 5:00:59 PM

Congratulations to this couple, their baby to come, and their new life together!!!

It seems to be forgotten that one, he and Uma have been divorced for 4 years now and two, it was not "rumored" that he had an affair with Ryan Shawhughes, it was his ex girlfriend, model Jennifer Parzow... From everything I have found, he and Ryan didn't fall in love until well after the divorce was finalized.

"It seems to be forgotten that one, he and Uma have been divorced for 4 years now and two, it was not "rumored" that he had an affair with Ryan Shawhughes, it was his ex girlfriend, model Jennifer Parzow..."

That's what I thought. If I remember correctly, he cheated on Uma while filming a movie in Canada with some model, not Ryan. Does make a difference for what it's worth, though I wouldn't trust this guy as far as I can throw him.

Posted by: Lauren at Jul 18, 2008 5:44:02 PM

Yes he did cheat on her with a woman while filming in Canada....not the nanny. I believe the story goes that he later began a relationship with the nanny, and she ceased to be the nanny...becoming his girlfriend...and then wife. They look like any couple would look like having a baby, and being followed around, not overly impressed, but putting up with it.

Posted by: Sabrina at Jul 18, 2008 6:29:42 PM

I had see a photos of them (2005)in which they are happier and hugged coming into Chelsea Hotel. But now, after announced pregnancy I haven't seen more. From then they are always serious and sometimes seem to be arguing. But in this photo he is smiling. I don't know in US but in my country the nannies are lacking culture. Ethan seems to be super intelligent and worried with his own education, voracious reader, became a writer. I really don't understand...But I remember when he said "You don't choice who you love" about Uma to be a celebrity. Maybe he thinks the same in this relationship. In some way he is right. So...Good luck for them.

Posted by: Nina at Jul 18, 2008 6:47:07 PM

As a few have clarified already, he did NOT cheat on Uma with Ryan. He supposedly hooked up with Jennifer Parzow here in my city, Montreal, Canada at a restaurant known to draw celebrities when in town and local girls hoping to score someone famous. ALSO, there were a LOT of rumors going around here that what really happened was that Uma and Ethan were not getting along, Uma strayed FIRST (but very much under the radar), and in his misery, Ethan hooked up with Jennifer and was not too discrete. Hence, why everyone has always assumed it was all Ethan's fault. But in my opinion, Ethan looked like a complete WRECK for a long time after they split (actually I don't think he ever recovered his looks, he aged a lot during that time) while Uma seemed to ger over it very fast and got together with Andre Balazs. Anyway, all this to say, there were a lot of rumors going around about that couple, and no one can know for sure. I wish him and his new wife the best, and let's get over it already!

"I disagree with the statement that he did the right thing for his unborn child by marrying her. What does that have to do with anything?"

Well Renee, you are entitled to your opinion as I am to mine. If you do not understand the significance that two people in a loving, committed marriage have on an impressionable child, then I am not the one to explain it to you.

I merely stated my observation. I have been thoroughly impressed with the celebrities who have gotten married because they are pregnant and want their child to be born in wedlock, whether they were going to get married or not or just upped the time table so that their little one was born after they married.

Of course it cannot always be that way, but it shows to me that the two parents are committed to being a family. I get tired of hearing how so and so doesn't need a piece of paper to show they are a family. It is much easier to get out of a relationship if you are not married and that is what it looks like to me - that these people are in it until they no longer want to be.

Posted by: Chrystie Delancey at Jul 18, 2008 7:11:12 PM

Chrystiesm you have a right to state your opinion and I have a right to disagree. I don't think you are being fair to the people who choose not to get married. Also, why does it concern you? I don't agree with pushing marriage on people especially complete strangers. Here's a good website about couples who choose not to get married
http://www.unmarried.org/
Maybe you should look at it. I don't want to get married and I think that should be respected and not looked down on

Posted by: Renee at Jul 18, 2008 7:24:57 PM

Nina..."Nannies are lacking culture"? That is such a rude thing to say. Whatever happened to the "say it to your face" rule on CBB?

Posted by: dsmom at Jul 18, 2008 7:36:25 PM

Thanks for the link, Renee, but I think I will pass. I believe in marriage and I am happily married.

I guess you would call me old-fashioned these days but that was how I was raised.

If you don't want to get married - don't. It's your life. I stated my opinion as you did yours.

But think about this, Sandra Bullock decided to get married after her boyfriend Jesse James was injured because she realized that (to the medical community)she had no say or rights regarding his treatment. I don't know about you but when it comes to my loved ones (and my husband is Type 1 Diabetic)I want to be able to make medical decisions on his behalf since his parents live across the country and I am his wife. Not all states recognize unmarrieds and therefore not all unmarrieds can make medical decisions for their partners.

Posted by: Chrystie Delancey at Jul 18, 2008 7:47:47 PM

Nina said in HER country nannies are lacking culture and perhaps they are.

Posted by: Chrystie Delancey at Jul 18, 2008 7:51:17 PM

I'm sorry, but you people who are saying that he did, for a fact, cheat on his ex-wife - now were you in the room when he did that? Because if not, how can you say something like that? How can you be 'so sure' that something happened, and think he's such a bad guy? Just curious, maybe you're psychic or something.

Posted by: Anais at Jul 18, 2008 8:36:45 PM

Just a general observation... I do not believe that marriage can make any relationship more stable or respectable. Or justify what had happened in the past. Parents morals, not the rings on their fingers, give children a sense of pride and stability.

Posted by: martina at Jul 18, 2008 9:01:02 PM

I don't want to start a debate about marriage here because it's clearly not the right place, but I just wanted to add that here in Canada, it's possible to have a legal status as a couple without being married. The only thing you have to do is get help from a notary and fill out a few forms.
Besides, I think getting married because you feel like you have to is pretty much the same as not getting married so it's easier to divorce. In my opinion, staying with someone without being married is a proof of love, precisely because it's easier to leave if things don't work out. That said, I respect everyone's opinion and I understand not all people will agree with me.

I also hope Ethan and Ryan have a happy and healthy little girl, there's no doubt she'll be gorgeous!

Posted by: Ella at Jul 18, 2008 9:52:50 PM

Dsmon I know that sounds such a rude thing to say. I know it seems prejudice but doesn't. Unfortunately it's a reality, at least here. I would like know a little more your language to explain what I'm talking. When Ethan got married with Uma he would seems so delighted about her intelligence. I don't know...I admit you are right because we don't know Ryan.

Posted by: Nina at Jul 18, 2008 9:53:28 PM

If there was no love anymore why would they go walking together all the time? It would be more telling if they were seen seperately. I think they just don't look so happy because there are photographers and she might not be comfortable getting so big and it being so hot.

This post has covered:

Cheating

Importance/Non Importance of Marriage

How this couple dont look "in love enough"

Nannies apparently lacking "culture"

His wife never smiling

Uma suspected of being pregnant.

All of this from one photo!!!!

Posted by: iluvallbabies at Jul 18, 2008 11:44:15 PM

iluvallbabies- Good point! I also want to share my own two cents about Ryan never smiling. As far as I know, she isn't a celeb like Ethan is. Therefore, she is probably not used to having the paps follow her like they have been during her pregnancy.

Posted by: CelebBabyLover at Jul 19, 2008 2:15:14 AM

ahh she looks like she dropped. I bet she has the little one sometime this week!

Posted by: MM at Jul 19, 2008 2:15:18 AM

That's a very good point, Christie DeLancey. I also agree that marriage can be a very good thing and I actually think that it has gotten a bad rap in the past few years. I hope Ethan and Ryan have a healthy baby.

Posted by: Chrystie DeLancey at Jul 19, 2008 2:17:08 AM

ROFL!!
That, by far, is the funniest thing I have read on this site. I seriously almost spit out my diet pepsi....good one, iluvallbabies!! ;)

LOL iluvallbabies!
'I think Ethan did the right thing by his unborn child by marrying her, but it doesn't seem like there is much love between these two'
I find that statement very judgemental and offensive BUT everyone is entitled to their opinion so fair dues.
I woner what they will all their daughter.

Are there two Christie DeLanceys or what is it with the post at 2:17 pm?
iluvallbabies, obviously we have some prognosticators on this website ;-).
I think those two look good together, all my best wishes to the new family.

I despair at the fact that a few people in here have been taken in by what Perez Hilton gossips about. He is a disgusting human being who says horrid things about children. Why take anything he says seriously?

He is what is wrong with society. I like coming here because I enjoy that this place is free of the type of nasty minded opinions spawned in other blogs.

Agreeing with oneself doesn't make your argument and more valid. Sigh. Anyway I hope Ethan and Ryan are very happy with each other and the upcoming new baby.

Nanny shammy, I'm just wondering if anyone is really interested in following this "celebrity" couple in their baby, anyways. Or are ppl just interested because she used to be the "nanny"?

I don't get the interest, every time I see a shot come up with them at CBB, I'm always thinking, "why are they even making this site?"

But to each their own.

Someone used my user name. I spent my Saturday housecleaning. I was not here that day.

I appreciate the support though.
