Our 4 yr old is Emma Kathryn. Emma is my husband's grandmother's name an Kathryn is a different spelling of my name, and is also y Aunt's middle name and my step-mother's first name. If sh had been a boy, it would've been Aiden Cole- Aiden for my great grndfather and Cole is a family name on my mother's side. I prefer names with history!
My daughter's name was my great great aunt's name.
Congrats to Brad and Angie!
My husband has his grandfather's full name.
My oldest son's middle name is the name of his paternal grandfather. My youngest son has the middle name of his maternal grandfather.
I love traditions like that.
Aww that's cute.
I also noticed that all the boys middle names end with a n : Maddox ChivaN, Pax ThieN, Knox LeoN.
All the girls have the letter L in their middle names but it's probably a coincidence.
I wonder if Vivienne will have Vee for nickname. Zee and Vee sounds cute :)
My son's dad is the 11th of 12 kids, my son is (approx) the 45th of 80 grandchildren--and all their names start w/ "R"..Rossano, Rodney, Rhamie, Roshawn, Rmari, Rory, Rsanae, Ryanna....my son is RhaeVaughn! You have to get real creative....... :)
My son's name is RhaeVaughn Gerard James, his 1st name is his dad's 1st & middle names combined. Gerard & James are his grandfather's middle names, too....my daughter's name, Rhumor Ryanna Symone, doesn't have any family ties, except I wanted her name to begin w/ "Rh" like her brothers...I just love different names!!
All of our children have family names. Our oldest is Andrew Ivan (my husband's middle name is Ivan and we also have many Johns in the family and we my great grandfather was Andrew). My daughter is Maria Stephanie after her great grandmothers Marija and Stephanie. Our youngest is Adam Robert after my father who died a month before Adam was concieved. It was so important that we liked the names and felt they went together and with our last name. We also checked the initials!
I also come from a family where middle names are family names- my middle name is my grandmother's, my sister's is my aunt's, and so on. My DS is Cameron Karl, Karl being his paternal grandfather. It's just the way it is in my family...:)
I love family names!
Both of my girls' names end in an a, though we didn't do it on purpose, it just seemed all the girl names we liked ended in an a.
My oldest daughter has my middle name, which is also my mom's middle name, my godmother's middle name and so on. Her first name also has a bit of my mom's name in it.
If we have a son he'll have two family names
I also used family names for my children. My mother also did it for me and my brother. She combined my grandmother's names to get my name and my grandfather's names to get my brother's name. My son is John Wilson. John is a family name on my husband's side (husband and his dad both share the first name but are called by their middle names) and Wilson is my maiden name. My brothers do not intend to have children so I thought it was important to pass the name down. My daughter is Kathryn Elizabeth. Kathryn is my mother's first name but she also goes by her middle name and Elizabeth is a family name on both sides. I also like names with history; it gives me a story to tell them about the people they were named after.
My sisters and I all have the initials KJC - it was a nightmare when the post came, my mum would open any letters first to make sure it got to the right one.
YAY!! COngrats to them and I love the names!!
My first born is Campbell William - Campbell was my maiden name and William is my dad and father in laws name.
My second is Cuyler James (pr. Ky-ler). Cuyler is a name we both really liked. James is after my uncle and grandfather.
My third is Geneva Elizabeth. She goes by Eva. My husbands paternal gramma was Geneva (she only went by Genn or Genny). Elizabeth is my paternal gramma.
My sisters baby is Marley Sparrow. Sparrow is out maternal gramma's name. I love her name!
All 5 of our children have family middle names but their "own" first names. Our oldest daughter is Azura Marie (Marie being my mother's middle name as well as a derivative of Mary; my two grandmothers' first name). Our oldest son is Brandon Thomas (Thomas being my husband's middle name, his father's middle name, his grandfather's middle name and so on). As he was the first and only boy at the time to carry on the my husband's last name (as my husband is the only boy, his father was the only boy etc) he got the middle name Thomas.
Our next son is Maxwell Earl (Earl being my husband's grandfather's first name, as well as my grandfather's middle name). Our youngest daughter is Sophia Karen (Karen is my mother-in-law's middle name) and our newest addition, son #3 is Locke Maynard (Maynard being my husband's other grandfather's first name).
This way our kids have their "own" names but also our families are honoured and the names can continue down the line especially with the family name "Thomas".
My husband is John Robert, My dad was Joseph John and our son is John Michael. We did not want a jr but people call him that grrrrrr.
These names also keep with another pattern in the family - all of the boys have a middle name (Chivan, Thien, Leon) that comes from the country they were born in, and all the girls have a middle name that corresponds to someone Brad and Angelina like or love (Marley for Bob Marley, Nouvel for Jean Nouvel, a French architect Brad really loves, and now Marcheline, for Angie's mom.)
Congrats to both Angie and Brad....their house is going to be sooo busy but fun.
My children's names end with AN and incorporate our names as well. Both my ex-husband and I have the exact same initals (T-D-K). We gave them their own first names but kept D middle names.
My oldest son is Christian Damar (has his father's middle name. Then there is Jonathan David and my daughter is Rian Desiree (she has my middle name). It's kind of fun if you can make it work.
I hadn't noticed that about the X's before. That's pretty cool. I love the name Vivienne, too--very pretty. I think Knox is unusual just that it's kind of old-fashioned.
Both our son's names are combinations of their grandfathers and great-grandfathers (David Ivan and Paul Daniel). If we have any more boys, they'll probably just be names we like. If we have a(ny) girl(s), we'll probably name one after my mom, who died almost 15 years ago.
while my real name is not Jayne, I go by that name more often than my birth name, and my husband and oldest son share the name James, my second oldest has the middle name Jarrod, my third oldest has the first name Jackson and my youngest has the middle name Justice... all J names... and my stepdaughters each go by their middle names Christy and Crystal... oh and all of my boys have two middle names...
James Mack Thomas, Eric Matthew Jarrod, Jackson Archie Nathaniel and Noah Buck Justice...
oh and if I have another boy his name will be Joseph Randall Benjamin and if I have a girl (IF I HAVE ANYMORE KIDS) she will share a C name like her sisters and be named Charlotte Christian and either go by the name Charlie or Chrissy...
It's a Jewish tradition to honor loved ones who have passed by naming children after them (but usually not the exact same name). So, when my husband and I were still dating, I told him our first child's middle name would start with L (after my amazing grandpa Leon)! He was fine with it, and I "gave" him first name "rights", which was C after his also awesome grandpa Charlie. So although we did not find out the gender, we knew the baby's initials (CLB). Craig Lloyd is now 2 and he would have been Claire Lindsay if born a girl. Sometimes this type of honor is also done with a Hebrew name so the English name can be whatever the parents want and the honor can still be there.
Congrats to Brad and Angie~!
My son's name "Lucas" is the electrical system in a British car (MG's, Triumph, Mini). His middle name is my paternal grandfather's name. My daughter's name "Lola" is the name of a race car built in England. Her middle name is my husbands mom's middle name. Both his mom and my grandfather passed away years ago. Coincendetely my kid's middle names have the same meaning - and start with the same letter. I don't know what we would do if we have more kids - it would be hard to find names with similar meanings - with the same letters. Plus, that could be kind of weird - like that family with all the kids whose names start with "J".
My husband's name is Jason. We named our son Jaxon because it was one letter different than Jason. If we have another son I would like to continue the trend with Mason, Jaron, Jadon, or Kason.
Congrats to Angelina and Brad and the rest of the family.
My son Alexander Raymond, got both of his names from family. Alexander was the middle name of my nephew who sadly passed away. I found out I was pregnant on the 10 yr anniversary of his death. And his middle name was his fathers grandfathers name. I l9ove the way it sound and even the meanings go together. Alexander means "to defend" and Raymond means "to counsel" so maybe I'll have afuture lawyer.
i'm guessing they'll call knox, just knox. and viveinee, viv , not vivy or vee. let's see!
My daughter's name is Marlee Ann Elizabeth. Marlee is for my late grandmother Margarette, and my husbands middle name is Lee. Ann is my mother's name, and Elizabeth is my First name, as well as the middle name of my maternal grandmother, and my paternal great-grandmother.
My daughter is Kaitlyn Elizabeth. Elizabeth was after her aunt (my ex husband's sister). Kaitlyn was just a name we both loved. My son is not named after anyone. We both just really loved Timothy Michael very much. If we (my 2nd husband and I) are lucky enough have another child we are using family names as middle names for a girl ...Jillian Dora Frances. Dora is after his grandma and Frances is after mine. For a boy my husband wants to use Curtis Joseph...after the hockey goalie...his fave player of all time. I would like to incorporate my grandfather's name into it somehow...either Carl or Gene.
Our girls were all named after family members. Anneslee Mae was named after her great-grandmothers middle names, Lee, Anne, and her grandmothers name Mae. Our second daughter, Morgan Reese, was named after my maiden name of Morgan and my mother-in-law's maiden name of Reese. Our third daughter is on the way and due in September. She will be named Delaney Rose after my mother's first name, Delane, and Rose, after my sister-in-law.
It was very important to us that the names of our children have meaning and symbolize important people in our lives.
Congrats to them! And I like their name choices.
We're going to give our daughter the middle name of "Jane" to honor my husband's late mother Joan. And also for my mom, as Jane is her middle name, and to honor a late family friend, my Aunt Jean. In the Jewish tradition, it's really only the first initial that's important in naming someone after someone who has passed. Or so I'm told, my husband is Jewish, I'm not.
My daughters both have "S" names. I didn't originally plan it that way, but after my second was born, I just like the way the two names flowed.
Both of their middle names are after deceased family members.
My middle name is after my godmother and one of my goddaughters has my name for her middle name.
My son's first name is Kasey, which is a name we liked before we found out the sex and is kinda after my cousin Casey who's a girl. My husband picked the 'K'. His middle name is Edgar, which is my grandpa's brother's name, my husband's great-grandfather's first name and his grandfather's middle name. My husband, son and I all have middle names that start with an 'E'. Our next child's name will be a combination of family names as well. Mostly likely Joleeann Elizabeth if a girl or Levi Emerson if a boy, once again going with an 'E' middle name. Joleeann is a combo of my mom's, our dad's, and his mom's middle names and Elizabeth is my middle name. Levi would be after our dad's middle name (Lee). Emerson would just be continuing with the 'E' theme, and it's kinda different. We have to have easy first names to pronounce, since our last name gets botched all the time. Also, if we have a girl next time, our names will start with J-K-L-M!!
my daughter was given both our mothers middle names.
My daughter's first name will be a very old family name (actually her great-great-great uncle's name) and her middle name will be her grandmother's middle name, her great-grandmother's middle name, and her great-great grandmother's name.
Congrats to Angie and Brad! I'm sure the babies, like their other children, are beautiful!
My daughter is named Mary. I named her after my grandmother and my great-grandmother. I was very close to both of them and were/are a very important part of my life. I know my grandmother was very honored when she was told that we were naming our daughter after her. Also, I didn't want my daughter to have a common name. I wanted her to go to school and not have another Mary in the class. Mary is a "normal" name but isn't very common. If we were to have a son, his name would be William Henry, after my step-father who passed away.
My son is named Daniel after his paternal grandfather. He was already a grandfather several times over but none of his grandsons were named for him. My husband was his father's favorite and our son was the first grandchild he got really excited about.
Sadly, Grandpa Daniel never saw him. He died four months before our son was born.
What a lovely tribute to the babies' grandmother. Vivienne Marcheline = live Marcheline.
Cher, we have the same situation -- my SO's middle name is the same as his father's and grandfather's. And my SO and his dad were the only boys born into their families :)
We don't have kids yet, but we do have names picked out :)
Boy: Jordan Dean ... first name was my name if I was born a boy and middle name has been the first born male's middle name for generations (in his family).
Girl is a little harder but it will be some combination of these names:
Robyn (we both like); Dawn (my middle name); Emerson (great-grandma's maiden name); and Cady (Elizabeth Cady Stanton) ... there are a few others we are considering but we like these best.
Hal Knox Hillhouse :it is brad pitt s grandparent name
leon is angelina ´s grandparent name
My daughters and sons names are:
1. Emma Riley: (no family history, we just loved it we call her Emmi or Lily)
2. Mary Margaret Diana: (Mary Margaret for my husband's mom and Diana for my mom Diane, we call her Marg, Margie or Little Lady Di)
3 Finley William: (Finley, we just loved it and William is for a little boy I knew when I wad little and I always loved that name)
4. Milan Preston: ( Milan: I heard that name when I was 14, it was the name that a celebrity gave her son and I loved it, plus it's an italian city and I have italian roots, so it's a connection to that beautiful country and Preston is just beautiful)
5. Our fifth baby is on it's way. It's a girl and we don't know the name we're gonna give her yet. So if you have ideas they're welcome. We like Maisie, Heidi and Elisabelle, but not sure on either one yet.
My son's middle name is Timothy after my husband's father. I was so glad we did especially after my father-in-law passed away unexpectedly a couple of years ago. If I ever adopted again, I would give my child their own first name and give them another family name for a middle name, like we did with our son.
My first daughter is named Kate Victoria - my best female friend was named Victoria. My second daughter we named Emily Len - Len is my mothers middle name and my grandfather was named Leonard. Both first names are just names we liked with no other significance.
I too like to mix up family names or pick names of special meaning. I loved my brother's name, Nekia, and named my daughter Kia and for her middle name I took my mother's name, Reesie, and named her Lareese "little Reesie"...LOL
Both my mum and I have our grandmother's maiden names (Cranston & Johnston, respectively) as our middle names, and my brother's middle name (Edward) is the same as my father's, grandfather's and is the same as my great-grandfather's first name. My cousin is named after our great-grandmother, and shares the same middle name as my mum. My aunt was named after both her grandmothers, and my uncle was named after his father. My family really likes to incorporate family names!
When my husband and I have children, we've already decided that our first son will be named William Henry after both our grandparents. I think it's lovely when children are named after beloved family members. I'm personally not a fan of Jr's, but it is nice to keep it in the family.
Hi, I'm a French reader.
Vivienne isn't a French name - or at least it hasn't been used for long (as well as Marcelline). The French version of Vivian is simply Viviane...
The only way we used family names is my older twin's middle name is my husband's middle name and my third son's middle name is my brother's middle name.
All of my kid's first names end in "n" and are Celtic. Their middle names are after family or friends. Elisabeth is from a girl I babysat for years. Edward is a combo of my dad, Eddy and my MIL Edna. Robert Paul is after my husband's brothers.
If we have a fourth the middle name with either be Grace after my SIL (her name is Nancy, which means Grace) or James which is my best friend's middle name.
On another note, my screen name is a combo of my two oldest kid's names. :)
well i'm sort of named after two people,
my great aunt was experimented on in a concentration camp so her and my uncle could never have kids- my uncles mother was called Sophie and it was so important to him that I had the same name as her (i never understood why he would always mention her whenever i visted until recently) and the midwife that delievered me was called sophie and was a holocaust survivior which my parents took as a sign lol
also we have a tradition of giving the firstborn girl the middle name jane.
My kids all have family connected middlenames. All their middlenames are familymember middlenames
Mikayla Marie (Marie like her greatgrandma, grandma and aunt mixed from both sides of the family)
Cameron Wayne ( Wayne like his dad and grandpa)
Shannon Isabell (Isabell like her aunt)
Fiona Kristien (Kristien is because her dads name is Kristian and we always get mail for Mrs. Kristien. Most people think he is the wife)
All 3 of our girls have middle names starting with the letter "S", because my middle name begins with an S, and so are my sister's and mom's.
Their names are Yasmine Sierra, Juliana Sophia and Lilia Sabrina. We never had a boy but if we did, he'll have some kind of connection with my hubby's family.
My three children have names that match somewhat - Elijah, Olivia, and Eliana. They all start with a vowel, have the l sound as the second letter and end in the a sound. My son's full name is Elijah Michael Zion - the Michael is for my husband and the Zion, just because we liked it. My first daughter's full name is Olivia Antonia Faith - Antonia is after my husband's grandfather Antoni. Faith is for faith in God. My second daughter is named Eliana Eva Jane. Eva was my grandmother's middle name and Jane is a derivative of Jean (my mother's middle name), Jan (my husband's mother's name) and John (my father's name).
Brad Pitt collects the metalwork of Archibald Knox, a turn-of-the-20th-century metalworker in the Art Nouveau style. Pitt is one of the foremost collectors in the world of Knox's pieces. Gotta assume this fact played a huge role in name choice, too.
I like the idea of incorporating family names. My mom and I share the same middle name (Lorraine) and I plan on passing it down to my daughter whenever I have kids. My mom's a Vivian, who usually goes by Viv, so they will probably call her that if they use a nickname :)
My family has a tradition of spelling things with a 'Y' Jillyen,Apryl,Martyn and my brother's first middle name Mycal. We also kinda have a tradition of giving kids name where the initials spell things JAMS,MARS,DAM. My dad wanted to name my sister Amy Sue Sullivan, but her mom said no. My first middle name is from my great grandma and my second middle name is my grandma's middle name. We have a tradition of giving kids two middle names also. Clearly,my family has way too much time on their hands :-)
Huh Leonor, I'm French. Vivienne is a french name, albeit an old one. 1940 was it's last year of glory...
We have an almost 4 yr. old daughter, Lillian Ashley. Lillian was my husband grandmothers middle name. Ashely was his grandfathers middle name.
We also have a 2 yr. old son, Noah Arthur. We couldnt find a family name we both agreed on for his first name so Noah was the only name we could both agree on. His middle name is after my father and great-grandfather
darn, I was going to name my son Knox! So much for that...I'm sure it's going to get really popular.
On my Dad's side of the family all the boys have got 2 middle names which is "Willam Samuel" which has been pass down from generataion to generations. i plan to carried the tradition when i have a son.
My youngest son and 2 of his cousins born after him have the middle name Michael after my husband and his sisters favorite cousin Michael. My husband wanted to use it as a first name but I didn't want the most popular name for his first name so unknowingly at the time I went for the 4th popular name of Joshua. With my oldest the only tradition was I got to pick the middle name of my sister's first born so she got to choose the middle name of my first born. His first name is Corey and she came up with Scott.
My name and my sister have family names. My name Amellia Bourie is a form of my mom's sister's name(she died when she was a Toddler) Her name was Armellia. My mom hate the name and so took out the R and it formed Amelia with 2 L's. And my middle name is my step-Grandmother's either her middle name or maiden name. My sister was named after my Dad's sister Brenda but her middle name of Lee my mom just chose to go with it.
I had Knox picked out for our last little fellow, but hubby vetoed it:( I love Vivienne, too.
Our oldest is the III, named after his dad and grandfather, but we call him Levi which was his great grandfather's name. Our others have middle names that are family last names - my maiden name, my mil's maiden name and my mother's maiden name.
I like those names, especially Viv's :)
My boys are Jordan Scott & Tristan Jacob.
Scott is my hubby's middle name, and one of my brother's, which they both go by Scott. Jordan goes by Jordan though, and I have nephew, whose names is Corey Scott. So its a family thing.
Jordan is Hebrew and Scott is of British line.
Tristan is Welsh(British) and Jacob is Hebrew.
So they have British & Hebrew names.
GB
My name is Stephanie Sue...I am the 5th of 5 kids.
My middle name is after my mummie, Constance Sue..
My brother Steven, who is 3 of 5... is Steven LeRoy..
LeRoy was our dad's middle name..
Elton LeRoy
So Steven & Stephanie and middle names after our parents :)
GB
We named our first Mason John. His middle name comes from my father's and grandfather's middle name.
We named our daughter Marlee Anne-Marie. My sister's and my husband's sister's middle name is Anne. My aunt was Marie. The spelling of her first name is for my father-in-law's middle, Lee.
Our newest, Maksim Evan, who we also call Maks, got his middle from my grandmother whom I was named after, Evelyn. It is also the first two letters of my middle and the last two letters of my husband's middle, Alan.
The first two got "M" names unintentionally, but my husband insisted that the third had to have an "M" name too, or he'd feel left out.
I´m named after my grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother(Catalina), though I was luckily spared their middle name Delia, which I really dislike-no offense to the Delias out there. My eldest brother is named after my grandfather and father, and my sister is named after my mom, original, I know.
our middle daughter's name is Jedera
standing for:
J=John
E=Edward
D=Denise
E=Elaine
R=Repman
A=Allen
she is very proud to be named after both of her parents
hkdiaz....I also have an Emma Kathryn around your daughter's age! Emma was a name that I loved, but Kathryn was a different spelling of my grandmother's name, Katherine. She passed before Emma was born, but she was so special to me. Our son Jacob is named after one of my husband's german ancestors who were immigrants here in the late 1700's. His middle name is Ryan...I love Irish names, because I am irish. Our oldest has my middle name, Marie...which has been a family middle name passed down 4 generations. Her first name (Alyssa) was the same as a girl who was really nice to me one summer at camp when I was having a hard time. Finally, my other daughter is Lindsay Michelle. Her godmother's name was Michele Lynn, so I flipped it around. Shame I've lost contact with that old friend!!!
Anyway, congrats to Angelina and Brad....can't wait to see those first baby photos...I'm sure they're beautiful babies.
My children's names all end in a Y. And all have family surnames as middle names.
Shelby Alayna Majesty (Majesty is my Mom's maiden name)
Landry Davis (Davis is my husband's paternal grandparents last name)
Colby Moses (Moses is the last name of a good friend who passed away soon before the baby was born)
Cute names for Brad and Angie!
There's not really any history to my or my younger sister's names. I'm Taylor Jade. My parents were choosing between Schuyler, Willow Rose, Madison or Debbie. Jade was also a contender, but after hearing Taylor Dayne on the radio, they thought Taylor Jade sounded good.
My younger sister, Devon Paige, is named after Devonshire, England where my paternal grandmother lived at one point it her life.
I'm not sure I want kids, but if I do, I only want one and I would adopt a girl from Russia, being Russian myself. Her name will be Mischa Ann Brooke. Mischa is after a teacher I had my second semester of my freshman year on college. She was such a sweetheart and believed in me when no one else did. Ann is also her middle name, and the middle name of a friend, Valerie and also the middle name of a child I work with, Lacey. Brooke I just like. And MAB are my teacher's initials. :)
#1 Daughter now 7.
Salinger Olivia
#2 Son now 4.5
Henry Silas
While JD Salinger isn't my favourite author, I am a writer and one day while (unknowingly) 4 weeks pregnant, I looked over at the name on the spine of one of my books and instantly thought.."What a great name for a little girl!"
I then found out I was due, and eventually discovered she WOULD be a girl. What choice did I have?
I told my husband he could choose whatever middle name he wanted without my input for our first child.
When we were due with #2 I knew we were having a boy but couldn't decide on a name.
Salinger was 2 years old and started to call my belly "Henry"... it stuck.
We then realized we had a literary theme with names going on.
2 weeks before concieving #3 my husband an dI, who had earlier thought we were done with children suddenly had a surge to reproduce.
"I want another girl"
"Me too"
"Could we call her Baiba after your Aunt?"
"NO!"
"What about Biba?"
"No!"
"I like B for a nickname...Baby B"
"It should be literary, to fit in."
"Hmmmmm, BEATRIX!"
"Yes."
Then I found out I was pregnant...then I found out she would be a girl.
I'm due in a few weeks and her name will be Beatrix Plum!
My family mostly does the K or C sounding names. Some of my cousins are Kestri, Kaylee, Kierra, Kysen, Korren, Krin, Kimberly, Cade, Kambri, Kelsey, and some of the cousins with kids have carried on the tradition with names like Cohen and Kyler.
My father is Douglas Jon and he wanted to keep the middle initial, so I am Elizabeth Janine. DJ and EJ. I intend to keep the J as a middle initial, particularly if I have a boy. My husband wants to use his father's name (Jeffrey). I don't particularly like the name, but it starts with a J and would therefore honor BOTH our fathers.
I wanted to have our children's names reflect our family, but we faced the battle of in-laws. Each side of the family expressed discontent when we proposed any name that was from a relative other than them. So, we made a pact not to use any family names. It's disappointing because I would love to use some family names, but it gives me some room for creativity. Now, we can choose names that reflect our other loves like literature, Irish heritage, or Japanese culture. I really loved Shiloh's middle name because it reflected Brad's interest in architecture, similiarly.
Choosing our daughter's middle name was made very easy for us, both my mother and my partners mother are named Gillian, so when our daughter was born we named her Charlotte Gillian, with both grandmothers kept very happy
I didn't name my daughter after any family member, but I did LOVE the name Vivianne! I thought about naming my daughter Vivianne. She came very close. It was in the top 3.
I ended up naming her Isadora. It means a gift from Isis. It has a deep meaning to me, especially while I was pregnant.
the meaning of names mean something to me more than family traditions. Vivianne means "life".
All of our kids names end in "an". I don't like using someone elses actual name from my family but I found other forms of the name to use that have the same meaning. And all are celtic. I like the way it flows off the tongue :o)
Weeelll, we didn't decide on naming our boys after actors, but that is how it has ended up. My first is Nicholas ALEC (we do like Alec Baldwin as an actor) and since we went with an A middle name, we decided on son number 2 being Jacob AIDAN (yes, we like Aidan Quinn, the actor) and number 3 son is Matthew OWEN (and we love Owen Wilson). We originally were going with A middle names, but for the life of us couldn't agree on an A middle name for Matthew so we decided on Owen and realized that we gave our kids middle names of actors and so there we are.
we are a bilingual family so we wanted short names, not so-called kreativ spellings and being pronounced kinda the same in english and german....so our 3 daughters are:
Luna Michelle
Nova Sophie
Milla Louise
I used the ending letter them for my kids as well.... well, my daughters, not my son!
Kayla Madison &
Jenna Cameron
-first names end in -A
-middle names end in -ON
-first names 2 syllables
-middle names 2 syllables
When I got pregnant with my son I just couldn't work it out w/ names so it ended up just being for my daughters :-)
When we named our kids we had to watch out too, to make sure they can be pronounced in english and german
Both of my girls are named after family - our oldest is Elizabeth Jane after my mother and mother in law, and our youngest is Carolyn Mae after both my great-grandmother and my husband's grandmother. We never did get a boy, but we'd have used family names (William Thomas) had we had a boy either time!
I like for a kid to have thier own name and not a family name..but a family MIDDLE name to honor somone u love. My sons name is Damien Edward. I am having all of my kids named after horror movie icons..(I have to be about the biggest horror movie buff in the world!) Damien is unusal, but it is both cute for a kid and manly for when he grows up (unlike Tyler which sounds too much like a childs name..nothing an elder can grow into, in my opinion). Edward is after my father who died when I was 16. If my hubby and I have another boy, we have a name picked out already, and if we have a girl we have a list of names but her middle name will either be Lee (my hubby's middle name) or Beth (my hubby's sisters name).
My son Dalton Charles- my fathers middle name is Charles. And my second son Brady Daniel- my husbands middle name is Daniel.
I loved incorporating family names with my sons.
My first two are Jenna and Joshua. With our third, we still liked 'J' names, but couldn't find one to fit our little girl, and so we went with Olivia. Now we have JennA, JoshuA, and OliviA!
I really like the name Knox, very cool name! I thought it was French just from looking at it, it has kind of a French feel IMO.
I prematurely posted, but to continue that:
our son Josh is named after my husband, John James, and his father, Jamison, who John was named after. Jamison was his my husband's maternal grandmother's last name. Our younger daughter Olivia has my middle name, Lee, and Jenna is named after a close relative that passed away right before we found out that we were pregnant with her.
I have an older brother, who was given up for adoption, and I met him when I was a teenager. His birth name was Jason Terrance, and he was planning on naming his first son that. But he has had only girls, but I would love to name my next son that..just to honor his wonderful uncle.
We have 5 children & they all have the letter 'a' in their names, which was very unplanned.
My older son has my father's name for his first name and my husband;s father's name as his middle name (Kevin Linn). My younger son's first name is just one I like but his middle name is an old surname from my family that sounded good to me - his name is Michael Kenyon.
all three of my kids names begin with K, have two syllables and don't have nicknames to shorten the name.
Kyle James
Karis Elizabeth
Kaylie Zipporah
the baby's name is a mixture of the two other names, in order too. KaYLiE. The vowels are from Karis' name.
their middle names are all Biblical names too. and, both girls have the letter Z in their middle names.
i have two daughters and they are both named after their grandmothers.
eleni (or lenia as everyone calls her) is my mother
georgia is my mother in laws names.
i am married to a cypriot and am half cypriot too and it is tradition here to name your children after the grandparents. my name zoe andria is my grandmothers name and my middle name is my great grandmother

All of my children's names begin with the letter "J":
John Allen
Joshua Wayne,
Joseph Alfred
Janna Alayne
Each child's name honors a family member.
My daughter Kaylynn Kersena. Kay is my mother's and my middle name. Lynn is my aunt's middle name and Kersena is my grandmother's middle name
Family middle name, saint's name for a first name... We'll do the same with any more kids.
Although we'll do family middle names for all of our kids, it's tough for us -- only my dad likes his name!!!! So although they would be honored, they don't want our kids "saddled" with the names they got!! Luckily our firstborn was a son and we were able to name him after my dad. (He has his other grandpa's last name so I thought it was fair!!!!!)
I love the twins names.
My twins also have family names incorporated in their names.
Johanna Kathleen (Johanna for her great, great, great grandmother, Kathleen for her fraternal grandmother)
Noelle Viola (Noelle for the season that they were born in and Viola for her maternal grandmother).
I love passing heritage and meaning down in names.
I was wondering how they came up with the babies' names. It's a very nice story and I think they are beautiful names.
Nicole, I never thought of that before. What a great family!
Phew! I am planning on naming my next daughter Isla...glad that they didn't chose that name after all! It would have been another trendy name as I'm sure the beautiful Vivienne will now become!
Both of my boys share the same middle name,
Kyle Edwin
Brandon Paul Edwin ,
minus the exception of Paul. Edwin is a family name that has been traced back to at least 200 years, and Paul is my DH name.
Our older daughter's middle name is Joy, named after her great aunt/godmother and our younger daughter's middle name is Elaine which is a form of Helen and both my husband and I have aunts named Helen so we are keeping the family names going as well.
My mom named us all ANN...My older sister is Breeann, I'm Joann, and my younger sister is Leann..I don't know if she meant to do it..But I'm pretty sure she did..My older sisters middle name is her Father's name, but in female form, I'm marie, which translates into Maria in Spanish for my paternal Grandmother, and my younger sister is Grace for my aunt, because she helped my mom in the delivery room..My mom had a field day with our names..LOL...
My daughter has a name that goes back at least seven generations...Giovanna. And her middle name of Eve is close to my maiden name of Evans.
My daughter's middle name, Leianne, was taken from part of my mother's name, Joann, and my daughter's great-grandmother's name Annie. My son's first name, Charles, is his father's and grandfather's first names, but he has a different middle name, which he goes by. We took the first letter of my middle name and came up with Kristin for my second daughter.
My one brother has my dad's first name for his middle name, and I have the French variant of my mother's name for my middle name, her idea. Otherwise, my dad would've just slapped her first name as my middle and it would've sounded a bit weird, and a few others overruled the idea, I think, haha.
As for others, I know of two of my nephews who are named after my dad, their grandfather. There's too many to count, but I have cousins and siblings all named after someone in my family, with the chosen name either being their first or middle name(s).
I got Frances for a middle name, which [though spelt the femine way] is my paternal granfather's name [Francis]. My sister took Ann for a middle name which is both my mother's middle name and my maternal great-grandmother's name.
I have the same initials as my Mom- CLG. My middle name is after my Aunt- I share the same middle name with her.
Whenever I have children I hope to incorporate family names into their names.
I used Oliver Scott after my grandmother Olive and brother Scott. A little girl will one day be Elizabeth Tyler (Eli) after my grandmother and youngest brother. Just wish i knew when that was happening :)
my daughter (due in 6.5 wks) name will be Asherah Nadia Nouvelle.
Asherah, being a Pagan goddess
Nadia being my name
and Nouvelle being my older daughters name.
her name is Nouvelle Nadia Angeline
Nouvelle being her great gramma's name
Nadia = me
Angeline is my mom's name.
with my 1 year old (Sailor Paige) Paige is the name of my best friend whose alwas been there for me and the Sailor is from "Heroes" b/c i loved the name Sylar..but he was a killer so i settled for Sailor Paige or Saige
and Coultyn doesnt have anything to do w/the family but her middle name Ncole is for a family friend who passed
The baby boy I'm pregnant w/now is either going to be named Maksim Lee Mitchell (Maks)- Lee for my grandmother..2 of my nephews already have Lee..or he will be Sacha Skylar
not sure though...but kedras that is very cool that you named your daughter from the names of you and your husband!!
I love the baby namesthey chose. But I also liked the "rumored" names (they were actually real pretty for girls).
David Mikel David first name is after his dad's father. Mikel is after his dad. Shalyn Fay Lyn being after her gma Linda (her dads side). Fay is after her gma and great gma (moms side) Samantha Gale Gale after her mom and great grandfather (on moms side). Nicoletta J'Lydia Pronounced Nicole with a etta at the end and sh-Lydia J' is after all her aunts (moms sisters) whos names all start with J and her moms best friend whos name starts with J. Lydia is after her mom.
All my sons have at least one family name except for my fourth one. We ran out of good family boy's names.
We chose Isabella Joy for our daughter.
Isabella is the Spanish version of Elizabeth, which is a family name on my side.
Joy, because my husband's late grandfather's last words were, "We'll have joy, joy, joy." That phrase is on his headstone.
Not at first sight, but she has a very meaningful name!
My parents went with a theme for my and my siblings names, as well as honouring family members.
Firstly, we all have four letter Celtic/Gaelic name. My parents got to my younger sister and realised that they had a theme going, so it didn't feel right to not continue with it.
In regards to honouring family members, my name is Tara Margaritta, and the Margaritta is my mother's name. My first brother is Kyle Wilhelmus, and Wilhelmus is my father's Dutch name (he goes by William). My second brother is Rhys John Bonsor; the John is the angelised version of my paternal grandfather's name Johannes and Bonsor is my maternal grandmother's middle name. Finally, my sister's name is Sian Gay Frederika; Gay is my mother's middle name and Frederika is my paternal grandmother's middle name.
Most of my cousins are similarly named after family members.
Vivienne also goes with Maddox's middle name. 'Chivan' means 'life' in Sanskrit/Cambodian. I think Angie has an obsession with 'life' (as opposed to another obsession with death)
My (soon to be expected) fraternal twin girls are both getting second names derived from my late mother's name. Her name was Cheryldean. So one girl will get ... Cherry and the other ... Deann.
We were lucky enough to have input from my daughter's birthmom and so we chose her name together. Arabella Hope is her name. Her 1st name means, "answered prayer", which, after almost 8 yrs., she is. Hope is just the perfect mn, and was going to be part of her name before she was born! If we adopt again, we may not have the luxury of choosing the name, which is fine! Everyone is extremely lucky to use family names and be thankful you only have 2 people to decide on a name!!
My Oldest Daughters name Jaiclynne was taken from the name Joslynne (liked that name) and my bestfriend in highschool Jacqueline...(Jay-so-lynne) her middle name consists of three of my dearest friends for life's middle names. Her god mother is the first, my maid of honor the second part, and my second daughters god mother is the third part of Jaice's middle name. My second Daughter Gabrielle Stephanie is also named after my husbands mother. It is tradition to take the Mothers first name and put it in the daughters middle name. His sister's middle name is from his Mom's, Mother's first name too. I am very much into tradition when it comes to naming my children after very significant people in my life. If we have a third and its a boy it will be after my husband whose family had kept the name tradition by naming the boys with a "C" name. It goes Craig (hubbys paternal grandfather), Calvin (his dad), and then Christopher. I like having a Christopher in my life forever so I decided we'd name the boy Christopher after him and Matthew (gift of god). He would be the only boy in my husbands entire generation to carry on his last name. Currently my husband is the only one (unless girls keep last name). If we had another girl it would be Isabella after my grandmother Anabella who lived in Isabella county lol and Aleece to carry on my family tradition of names close to my great grandmother Alice, Dad's sister Elsie, and My name Alisha. I am very much in to giving my children a piece of history and meaning behind their names!
A.J.

I love names that have some deeper meaning...my oldest son is named after his father (as a tribute to HIS life story, which is pretty amazing) and my youngest is named after my grandfather who was a very special an important person in my life. My siblings and I were also all named after family members or close friends and my husband was named after an uncle.
All three of my kids have their own first names but their middle names after family members. My oldest daugther is Kimberly Maree; Marie is my middle name and did not want to use it but my ex got his way and I told him I will get to spell the way I wanted so we both got it. Kimberly's middle name is after my grandmother and me. My second daughter is Heather Elizabeth; Elizabeth is after my sister and my dad's mother. My son is Andrew Richard. Richard is after my brother.
Congrats to both Brad and Angie!
The tradition in my famil was to have made up names. Being my name: Tyasha Nicole. My oldest daughter is Tatyana Amani De'jionique (De'jionique is a family name). My son's name is Robert Anthony (Robert is after my late grandfather Robert Samuel. My son's middle name, Anthony is a family name on both of sides of the family. My youngest daughter is Gianye Nicole (Gianye is made up and Nicole is my middle name). Traditions do still run in my family as well as making up names is becaoming more popular in my family. Like my goddaughters Ce'Asia and Ty'Asia.
My grandmother's last name is Knox and we have the longest running family reunion in the state of Georgia (130 years this August). I always wanted to name my child Knox and I have one cousin whose teenage son is named Knox.I have to admit now i am hesitant, I wouldn't want people to think i copied these two for naming my child.
Splendid! Beautiful Innocent Vivienne reaches to the heavens and Knox...that´s Powerful and dramatic. Congratulations!
May the angels rejoice!
My triplet cousins first name begins w/a "P" and their middle names are "Love", "Hope" and "Joy".
Congratulations to you both.
That was my father's name KNOX LEON PYLE, JR. He passed away 2 months after 911. He was a great husband, father and a Marine. I must say this was a shocker to me and my mom (her name is Fredye Joe - Fred was her father's name and Joe was her uncle who was a Senator in Louisiana)because it is such a rare name. We feel honored and wish blessings upon your two precious gifts.
Congrats to the Jolie-Pitt family!
We too named our chidren after family members AND have a themes as well. . . like the Jolie-Pitts. My first son, Alexander, has his Father's first name as his middle name. . . Rey. My second born, Savannah, and I share the first letter of our first names ( my name is Susan). My last born, Austin, was named after his great-great grandfather and his middle name is the same as my husband's middle name ( and the first name of his grandfather) Carter. Also, both boys share the first letter of their first names ( had my last one been a girl, she would have been Stephanie so she would have had the same first letter as her sister)!
We planned to give one child my middle name -Elisabeth(also my mom's middle), and the other my husband's - Lee (also his dad's middle). When the first was a girl, we had to go with Elisabeth, since Lee could go either way. But then, we picked Emily for our second girl's name; and Emily Lee just didn't roll, so we went with his mom and grandma's middle name - Jeanette.
We named Sarah for a young English nanny who was hitchhiking across the U.S. with her boyfriend, and spent a night or two at our house; Emily for Emily Bronte - my husband was an English lit major. Turn's out the family considered them both family names - but Aunt Sarah went by Flossie!! and Emily from Aunt Amelia. We were the first in the U.S. to use Sarah and Emily, however, and started the trend 20+ years ago. LOL
I'm due to have my 1st child October 2008. The name I have picked out honors 2 relatives. My daughter's 1st name is the month my deceased father & I were born. Her middle name "Mateo" is for my cousin Monteo who was unable to have children with his wife.
my eldest son is Thomas David Thomas is after my great uncle and David is husbands middle name and my dads and father inlaws names
Alexander peter Pter is my hubbys name
Louis blake is named after my grandmother Louise and Blake is my brothers name and my daughter is Lauren Marie my middle name and my mums middle name is also marie my hubbys daughter is Amy and she is named after my hubbys grandma
My eldest son is named Justin Christopher (His dad's name is Chritopher) My daughters name is Ashlynn Jean (Jean for my maternal grandmother). My mother is named Gina and my middle name is Jeanette.
Yes I love family names. Our daughter's middle name is her great grandmother's. Our oldest son's middle name is the same as both of his grandfathers and our youngest son's middle name is his grandfather's middle name.
My daughter was named after my grandmother. Grandmother's name was 'Allie Jackson'.
I named my daughter, Allison, we call her Allie.
I have 2 sons who have the same initials. Kyle Randall will be 21 in September and Kolton Raine is 17. My late husband, lost tragically in an auto accident at the age of 39, was Kerry. It was my wish to have the boys first initial the same as Kerry's, while he just wanted to make sure that at least one of them had a "cowboy" name, hence Kolton.
if ever i have kids on my own in the future...for sure i will name them from the combination of my name and my surname or names of our ancestors...
i love the name of dean gabriel for boy and mary antoinette for girl....
congrats to angelina and brad
two cute little babies...love their names!
Hi!
I'm writing from Hungary. I just want to say that it is really strange fot me to give my children a family name but it is a really good idea. In Hungary people think that it is too old-fashioned. I have three children. All got traditional Hungarian first names but their middle names(they have 2 middle names) (although in Hungary your child can just have 1 middle name) were chose from different countries.
My twin girls are:
Detre Ludovika Gvendolin
Áfonya Sigurdottir Vittoria
And my baby son's name:
Kelen Baltazár Charon
In our family, all five of us kids have middle names starting with A. My oldest brother has carried on this tradition with his sons as well.
Another interesting trait in our family names is that I think we're going to have a John Ippoliti in each generation. There are already three as far as I know (my father, brother and nephew).
About the babies' names: I like them...and I'm also jealous: I wish I had been named Vivienne.
