My husband read the same book as Pete. He thought it was good but he found it hard to get through because it was very serious. The other two he read and liked were "Pregnancy Sucks For Men: What to Do When Your Miracle Makes You BOTH Miserable" and "My Boys Can Swim!: The Official Guy's Guide to Pregnancy."

That's nice but don't call the baby "it"! I wish people wouldn't do that and would take the time to say he/she or "the baby".. he does do this later in the quote.

When I was pregnant (both times) I found myself referring to the baby as "it" sometimes, even though I didn't like that, because it could be sort of cumbersome to always say "him or her" or "the baby" (because we didn't find out the sex ahead of time). It does seem sort of impersonal, but it's not like the baby knows what you mean or you keep doing it after the baby is born.

I agree Shelby, what else are you gonna call the baby? Just keep saying...the baby, I guess? I know it does sound impersonal, but if you don't know the sex...???

I'm sure he's playing it safe after slipping up and using them instead of he or she. With everyone looking for clues and hints and hanging on every word - who can blame him! He's probably a nervous wreck every time he speaks! This is going to be a super cute baby : )

I'm pregnant and I refer to the baby as "it" all the time. I don't know if it's a boy or a girl yet, and while I do sometimes say "the baby", I also say "it".

I hate it also when people refer to their baby as 'It'! Why not just say 'baby'. I can't wait for this lil babe to be born!! Sooo excited for them!! He/She will be here before we know it because she is really showing now.

I agree with brannon. Yes, he could say "he or she", but let's face it, that gets to be kind of a mouthful after a while! Also, if he said that, it would be easy for him to slip and accidentally say just "he" or "she" instead of "he or she". I'm sure, like brannon says, he is just playing it safe! After all, when he used the word "them", everyone immediately assumed that he meant they were having twins!

I've called my baby "it" throughout my pregnancy, especially before we knew the sex. I didn't feel comfortable referring to it as "the baby" before about thirty weeks when it was comfortably viable and that was about the point when we found the sex out too. Saying "he or she" the whole time would have been a pain in the ass!

I think my partner read the same book as Pete. He talks to my belly for the same reason! Sometimes he gets kicks in response.
